In a recent interview with IGN, Atari has revealed that they are planning on unleashing Godzilla: Unleashed on the Nintendo Wii. The game developed by Pipeworks Software is actually the third installment in the series which traces its roots on the GameCube title, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters. The interview with the Pipeworks Software folks is quite hefty so we're just gonna serve you the more interesting parts.
Now, we're sure you're wondering about the controls for this Wii game. Apparently, the game will be played with the nunchuk style, with the Wiimote handling the attack and the nunchuck taking care of the movements. The new controller is also the reason why monsters can now do any and every primary actions independently. So what does all these mumbo-jumbo means? Here's what the devs said:
This means that you can charge while jumping in the air - fire your weapon during attacks, and move freely at all times...Godzilla can be walking in one direction, attacking with his claws in another, firing his weapon in a third direction, and swinging his tail at a rear target all at the same time. We're just focused on putting the maximum amount of control into the player's hands at all times.
With a general idea of how the controls would work, you may now wonder which monsters can you play. From the screens, you could see that aside from Godzilla; Megalon and Mechagodzilla are also in there. According to the devs, the game we'll be featuring TOHO's "A" list of monsters, wherein some are updated from the more recent movies and some would be surprises. All of the monsters (or kaiju) have undergone "a hi-res makeover with higher poly models, bump-mapped details, leg IK, and amazingly smooth animations."
The game is also coming out on the PSP and the DS and it has a Q3 2007 release date for the U.S. We'll update you as more info about Godzilla: Unleashed comes our way. For now, check out the link below to read the word-per-word interview.
