Here's a mighty useful program for the Wii: a port of GeeXboX, a program that lets your console play audio and video files. The program is based on gc-linux's Linux program, which lets PCs have Home Theater PC (Media Center) capabilities. This is only the first release so it still has some bugs, and the author describes it as a "crude prototype," but expects huge improvements with the next releases. Still, it's a great start, and we're eagerly anticipating the next release. This version of GeeXboX for the Wii is able to support all audio and video formats supported by MPlayer - including RMVB - with the exception of WMV9 audio. You'll need a USB keyboard to run this baby as well, as the Wiimote is not supported yet. Here's a vid of GeeXboX in action: Please go through the readme carefully before using the program. The readme has the necessary information for the program, including installation, controls, limitations, and currently known bugs. Now, enjoy the download! Download: GeeXboX (prototype release) |

» awsome!!
This is really GREAT news!
two things I can think of that this will need
1) Wiimote support
2) USB HDD support!
If you can get a usb hdd running with this it will allow someone to have backups of all their movies on there and run it as a true HTPC interface. Who knows, the Wii may even be able to run a USB tv tuner and make it into a FULL PVR. Would be a pretty cheap build. If you could get your hands on a wii to use.
