Some of you may already have heard about the controversy surrounding GameTrailers during the past weekend. They published a video showing off the supposed graphical differences between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Codemasters' Race Driver: GRID (Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo DS, and PC).

What sparked the community was that one segment that was labeled to have shown Xbox 360 footage was actually taken from the PS3 version. Well, it seems like GameTrailers has finally come up with a proper explanation about the rather controversial video.

From the get go, GameTrailers Editor in Chief Shane Satterfield explained that it was a simple mistake in the post-production process. Here's a direct quote taken from an interview on Joystiq about how this mix up actually occurred:

[...] After we captured the footage from both versions, some of the footage of the PlayStation 3 version of the game was incorrectly placed in the bin for the Xbox 360 footage. Our video editor on this particular project is not a games person and completely overlooked the fact that he had the wrong footage in the wrong place. We normally have multiple checks from games editorial on every segment that is published, but there was some confusion on who did/did not look at it before it was sent out for compression. Thus, the mistake.

Satterfield went on to mention this was not an endemic issue and that the GameTrailers editorial staff admitted to the failing of their fail safe procedures for this particularly offending video. However, he assured everyone that this will never happen again.

For those of you wondering why any subsequent forum posts regarding their inadvertent mistake were quickly deleted or moderated, Satterfield explained that it was not because they were being defensive. Rather, it was because that there were already too many threads about it that the moderators had to cull them down to one thread. It was also GameTrailers policy not to shut down threads due to criticism, since feedback is essential to improving any product.

Already, they are currently working on an updated video which will show the correct Xbox 360 version footage taken from the highly realistic racing title, as well as an apology for the gaffe. Hopefully, this will clear up any confusion the previously aired video was able to spark up. You can view the complete interview given out by the GamesTrailer EIC by clicking on the Via link below.

» so what? The demo was awefull anyway!

This is an arcade game, so I'm not even gonna think about renting it, let alone buying it. I'm gonna play Gran Turismo intead...

PS: I never really liked arcade racing, unless you have weapons or fun killing the opponents (like in motorstorm, wich I'll buy the 2nd for the multiplayer - 4 in split screen), but I wouldn't call motorstorm and the likes "arcade racing", it's more: "action racing" or something like that, lol.

 » I bet

they do this for every game. Just capture the 360 version, bring the contrast down on the ps3 version and say Microsoft rules.
