 GameStop stirred up some controversy earlier this month when they broke the street date on Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, and PC).
The retailer owned up to the action, saying that it was done to protect
their consumer base.It appears the consumer base needed more protecting, now that they've broken the date on two more major releases: Assassin's Creed II (PS3, Xbox 360, and PC), and Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360, PC). Kotaku reports that copies of the two sequels are already being sold in GameStop outlets in Jersey City. Personnel responded that they have the go-signal from the higher-ups, explaining that a mom-and-pop broke the street date first. They added that only the GameStop outlets in Jersey City have been granted permission to break the dates. GameStop sells Modern Warfare 2 early:

A) its such a poor excuse, that can barly be proved *im not even sure how they know if a store broke street date or not...*
B) most people whom care would have preordered to get whatever item, so they would wait and or get it then...
C) the type of people whom would buy from the mom and pop store prob wont buy from gamestop first, and a lot of people will just go to the best deal/first place they see...
personally i go to whatever place i see it at first, not exactly which place releases it first... if i saw target with ___ game i wanted a day eariler or later if i didnt have it and wanted it i would buy it... i doubt many people are too different making their excuse BS

anywho, so someone sold a game ahead of time, new employees do this by mistake all the time from games to other stuff. i worked at Target for a year and some new kid sold like a box of a psp game a few days ahead of time to one customer before any of the "higher ups" found out. shet happens.

GameStop is certainly not winning any friends among publishers. They're undermining their suppliers to undercut their competitors. That doesn't sustain itself long.
I get the game usually the day after launch, but I still buy from Amazon. It's almost always cheaper, free shipping, tax-free. It's a no brainer as a consumer.
They're not 'protecting' a consumer base they don't have. They're simply playing dirty to acquire a consumer base they don't have.

One of the only reasons I like gamestop is for the used/refurbished consoles and accessories.
I never buy games there anymore unless it's for a gift and I can get it used.

i never goto gamestop anymore. its always to crowded with little and the shops are usually a hole in the wall. i get the same feeling walking into gamestop when i walk into walmart. i'm lucky i have a bestbuy on the east and west side of my city so i don't have to goto gamestop.
buying from amazon is the way to go. take ac2. gamestop's 'exclusive' pre-order bonus is going to be available to the public at some point. at amazon, you could have pre-ordered ac2 for $50, had it at your house on release day and get $10 off your next game purchase....no brainer
