Publisher Eidos is set to turn the PSP into a virtual music studio following an announcement at this year's Games Developer Conference in San Francisco. The game or software is called 'Traxxpad' will offer virtual sequencers, drum machines, and keyboards that could suit beginners, music lovers, and even professional DJs. Traxxpad will include a mixing and sampling feature so that users can record samples straight to the handheld and remix them on the go, with the ability to export creations as popular music types such as MP3s or WAVs.

The closest thing we have to this right now is the homebrew app PSP Kick v3.00 and development of this application is just starting up again. The question is, will the commercial application live up to the homebrew alternative? In case you're new to the scene, PSPKick has a bit of a following here at QJ. According to Eidos' Kevin Gill - "It's one thing to make a powerful music device, but it is truly impressive to make an application that allows someone unfamiliar with music to make something that sounds professional."

We can't make a judgment on this at the moment because we haven't yet seen anything of this Traxxpad. But sure enough, when screenshots and more details come through, the issue will be raised once more. For their sake, let's just hope Eidos will come up with something a little different, or this game/software will flop very quickly.

 » Lazy bastards

Why does anyone bother with this crap? Why not do what normal people do, and learn how to play a damned instrument in the first place? Is everyone that freaking lazy, that they'd rather press a few buttons and generate fake sounding crap instead of taking the time to learn how to play and have a true sense of accomplishement? Wait, I forgot, this is America. Land of the lazy and home to the stupid. Go ahead and have fun making synthcrap, I'll go pick up my Gibson Thunderbird bass and play something that doesn't sound like R2-Dr taking a dump.

Here's a hint, some people can play many instruments AND use synth software. If you were any good you COULD play something that sounds like r2d2 taking a dump on your bass. If you were any good.

 » oh yeah?

well while yer at it, stick that bass up yer @ss.

truthfully, you couldnt COMPOSE a whole cd's worth of music from SCRATCH with just yer crappy bass guitar..

while i can take a dope funk track, chop it up layer on effects, then create a totally different beat with it, and layer on virtual instruments, that I create using my mind, and layered oscillators and synths, then invent my own BASS sound using sine waves, square waves, and distortion effects, add a little flange to it, and compressor, and then completely COMPOSE my own tracks, that end up getting PRESSED to VINYL, and SPUN at huge clubs around the world, and played on the radio, and have people know MY name and MY songs. and have followers that RESPECT all forms of MUSIC, that know my songs beat for beat, note for note, and line for line.. ALL AROUND THE WORLD. while you work a *****ty nite to five to get paid crap. and go home to your crappy bass, to play in your bedroom.

HAVE FUN lamer.

MUSIC IS UNIVERSAL.

demz + truth.

Crash_Breakdown: I wasn't refering to you. If you know how to play an instrument, you're automaticlly excempt from what I said.

Bomberman: I have to problems with people that play instruments and use synth. But those who use use synth software are just plain lazy.

demz.: I don't try to compose a whole CD with just my bass. That's because I have people I go out and jam with and just in general mess around. I don't care if I'm famous for my playing. And it's douchebags like you that think you're so cool for choping and splicing another artist's work into something with your name on it that's turning music into suck. So why don't you learn how to play a real instrument before I shove your computer's mouse up your ass.

Has anyone on the staff tried the diverse and robust music app PSP RHYTHM? Don't forget your other homebrew developers, people. Give the props!
