Lego-shaped automatic pistol, one of the many designs featured in Forbidden Lego - Image 1I still remember when I got my first Lego Technic set for Christmas when I was a kid. Back when the Internet was just a high-tech government project, my Lego set provided me hours of creative amusement.

What it did not teach me was just how dangerous some of these designs can be when applied (im)properly. A recently published book, Forbidden Lego, by Ulrik Pilegaard and Mike Dooley from No Starch Press shows some of the more potentially dangerous designs a person can create out of a set of Lego blocks.

No, it really isn't a book which promotes creative terrorism, rather it shows a behind-the-scenes look at Lego and the cool things a person can make if nobody had to worry about product liability suits. The book features step-by-step instructions how these designs can be implemented.

The depth of technical information is sure to attract adults as well as teach kids on the physical principles attached to the Lego series. However, this is not a book for beginners and should really be used responsibly, especially if you want to create a pistol-shaped Lego gun that fires bricks (seriously, it's in the book).

Regardless, Lego will always be something that promotes creativity in minds, both young and old alike. I may end up buying myself a copy of this book as well - for educational purposes, of course.
