While Nintendo may still be enjoying its seat atop the three-way console wars, a new threat may soon oppose its position atop the consumer food chain. According to an article from Forbes, Apple may soon have the potential to topple the video game giant with the introduction of its new App Store this Monday. The new service to be rolled out by the Cupertino-based company will allow third-party developers to introduce their programs as downloadable software for the iPhone and iPod touch. Apple already started the ball rolling with the unveiling of its software developers kit (SDK) earlier this year, and showed some impressive demos of what it can do on their respective gadgets. Nevertheless, Nintendo won't be an easy foe to bring down. Despite the fact that the DS and its rival Apple products all share touch screen capabilities, the ability to download software into the iPhone wireless may become the winning edge for Apple in the end. Several big companies have already hopped onto the Apple gaming bandwagon, with both Sega (Super Monkey Ball) and Electronic Arts (Spore) already making their own contributions to the mobile gaming platform. However, only time will tell whether these factors will be enough to make a dent in Nintendo's seemingly impenetrable armor. Keep yourselves tuned in for more Apple updates here at QJ.NET. |
