UPDATE: Well unfortunately, the problem is a bit bigger than what was originally thought. While the keys for most modules are unchanged, it seems that the keys for the loadcode and loadexec modules have been changed, plus they have been tagged differently. While many of the modules are decrypted, the problem is that a lot more modules are left un-decrypted, which means that Devhook emulation is currently not possible.

At this point, I won't speculate about when it will get decrypted. Let's just hope for the best! Also, thanks to Mathieulh for clearing up the confusion.

Firmware update 3.03Yes, the latest firmware for the PSP is out! But just like the last few updates, this one offers nothing great unless you're lucky enough to have a PS3 with you. Here's the single update which is listed on Sony's official site:
Don't worry though, we do have something to be excited about. I talked to my friend Birdman a while ago who gave the news that even though it's currently unusable with the latest Devhook, the problem is quite minor. It seems that Sony hasn't changed the decryption keys, which means that a lot of stuff gets decrypted. The only problem is that they seem to have changed the PSAR layout which means that psardumper gets confused while decrypting.

Obviously, this means that psardumper can easily be modded to check for a different layout when decrypting this firmware. And since it's open source and well maintained, we should be expecting a modded version soon. Anyways, even though most of you know this, let's just make it clear, shall we?

This firmware is currently non-homebrew-able. Please don't upgrade with the hope of it being cracked anytime soon.

Now that we have that out of the way, here's the download for firmware 3.03.

iso's and the lack of people buying games is exactly what kills sony and the psp (not literally kills them ...). its just like the movies, who's going to go buy the movie when they can just copy it from their pc for the cost of one program(if they buy even that much) and the time it takes to convert. I for one understand why sony isn't happy with homebrew, but that isnt going to change things, because the people are happy. maybe if sony started offering iso's of psp games (through non p2p trap methods) and actually tried to make money off it instead of finding people to sue, they might turn a profit and work things to their advantage.

   Re: lol (Unregistered) - 2006-12-20
 » the problem is

even if they sell iso, those who pirated the game will still continue to pirate the iso. some1 for sure will buy sony iso (if they offer) and will upload his/her iso for free to torrent. den the iso pirates will still get it.

You Need a Dreamcast wired through a Game boy colour to be able to play ps1 games on your psp.

 » Oh Geez!

[ The PLAYSTATION Network] Titles which can be played from the PSN have been increased.
Does that mean I don't need a PS3 to download my PS1 games?

HOW IN THE F**K did you conclude that "Titles which can be played from the PSN HAVE BEEN INCREASED" really means that you dont need a PS3 to download PS1 games? I seriously question how these people are able to make it alive day to day with their seriously flawed mental capability, as shown through the above diahrea of a comment.

And to all of you bashing ISO's, shut your as*es up!!! Lots of ISO users who have a conscience use them so they can dump the UMD's they own onto their memory card, so as to carry a few games with them, instead of swapping the UMD when they need a change. So, I for one do NOT want to see Devhook lose its ISO capability, because the sheer convenience of having my whole library stored on my memory card is too much of a luxury just to deter others from obtaining their games in a more shady manor.

And for those bashing emulators, again, put a cork in it!! Quite frankly, i dont see a means of obtaining a copy of 10 yard fight anymore, except for paying over 100 dollars to get a vintage NES collection from ebay, then be forced to play it on an old used NES obtained from that auction, while realizing the reason i dont play NES anymore as im blowing into the cartridge, cleaning the connections, and hitting it just to get it going!!! I will download old nes games, and will stop, when Nintendo, Sega, etc. take the initiative and allow the purchase of those games that they control for a price that is REASONABLE and which doesnt require me to purchase a Wii, which I would rather sh*t out a cinder block then purchase that novelty infused fisher price toy.

   Re: PriceDrop (Unregistered) - 2006-12-20
 » an easy solution

sony and developers should drop the over inflated price of games and umd's to $5. That would encourage people to buy UMDs. Rather they are ripping people off with the ridiculous pricing. Most of the time you end up with a sh1t game that you only play once anyway. People that download ISOs know this and it is cheaper to download the game to try it out first as 90% of the PSP games are *****.

On PS3, homebrew can not result in the use of pirated PS3 games. On PSP it can, and is being used for that. Maybe when devhook/custom firmware stops including an ISO loader it'll have less resistance

thats pretty rich bull***** right there dude! I MEAN WE did GO THAT ROUTE FROM 1.5-2.6 MOST EVERYONE AS A whole WITH ELOADER EXPLOITS N SUCH.....BUT IF SOMY SIMPLY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ALL ITS USERS or TRUST US....AND PATRINIZES OUR IMPORTANTS AS THE GAMMERS USING THE MACHINE ....THEN WHAT CHOICE IS THERE THAN TO DO WHAT ANYONE WHO PAID A TON FOR THERE PSP'S DO... GET A FAT LOT OF EMULATORS AND HOMEBREW BECAUSE SONY OFFERS NON-FEATURE RICH OPERATING SYSTYEMS AND TAKES POLLS ON " WHAT THEY WILL REMOVE" (ASK BETA TESTERTS FORTHE NEW DAXTER GAME :( ) ITS THE FACT THAT SONY WANTS TOO OFFER LESS AND EXPECTS TO COMPETE WITH THE NDS AND IPOD! WELL YOU KNOW IF IT WERE USING ITS FULL POTENTIAL EVERYWHERE NOT JUST FOR HOMEBREWERS IT WOULD BE A MEDIA KILLER AND ALTHOUGH WE SEEM LIKE MANY WE ARE FEW IN COMPARISON TO THE MILLION PSP'S SOLD WORLD WIDE EVEN COMBINING OUR NUMBERS.....HOMEBREW IS SMALL SCALE COMPARISON TO NON HOMEBREW NON FEATURE RICH PSP'S ....WITHOUT HOMEBREW MY PSP GETS OLD FAST EVEN WITH REAL PSP GAMES :( ITS NOTHING COMPARED TO PLAYING A HOMEBREW PS1 AND FF7-9

At least talk about somit useful so the "n00bs" can learn instead of *****in like petty school cows and make the homebrew community somit worthwhile - those who hate homebrew, its not all about pirating so get over ya sel! An those of you who go on about the n00bs being stoopid... i aint heard any of you say somit remotely helpful - pretty amateurish... don ya think? Jus appreciate what peolpe are doing in their free time to make our PSP's better, an stop demanding they bring out this an that - THEY are the ones who know what theyre doing - so leave of dumbasses.

 » devhook an emulators

devhook emulates (or runs) firmware over your existing firmware so you can use for example firmware 3.03 temporarily so you can play UMD games that require that firware while keeping firmware 1.5 for homebrew games or software etc. Emulators run homebrew games - for example if you want an n64 game on your psp you will need an n64 emulator.
Downgraders will downgrade your firmware if you "accidentally" upgraded to a firmware not capable of certain homebrews or functions of a lower firmware - downgrading is difficult - upgrade to a brand new firmware and our gonna b stuck with it for quite a loong time until a donwgrader surfaces. Im not sure of the average time scale but you would be looking at months, easily. These are the basics... obviously it goes a lot deeper - but with the basics you shouldnt go wrong and screw up home brew capabilities for a months.

I updated to 3.00 in hopes that there will be a crack soon, I can't wait so I can try DevHook out, I got my PSP pre-owned and the previous owner already updated to 2.82 when I got it so I couldn't do anything, I love PSP HB Personally and hope that some dev cracks it soon! I want PSP Homebrew so I can load DevHook and some homebrew like Psix or 3.01-OE. Currently I'm bored with my PSP because it only reads UMDs half the time
