Star Ocean 4 is born! - Image 1 Star Ocean 4 is born! - Image 1

Well folks, have we got some interesting news for you. Jeux France has found a few new scans from Famitsu detailing Square Enix's development of a brand new Star Ocean game, currently called Star Ocean 4.

According to the information on these scans, there are currently two main characters presented: the male protagonist named Edge Maverick (who will probably become the player character), and a female heroine known as Reimi. Also, Jeux France is saying that you'll now be able to take four companions into battle as opposed to the usual 3 seen in the previous iterations of the franchise.

Currently, very little information has been made available, but we expect some more concrete details once the Tokyo Game Show rolls along. Till then, sit tight, and pray that Star Ocean 4 becomes a multiplatform game.

Well i'm just hoping it doesnt come to the wii. I dont want crappy graphics on my ps3 and 360 due to the wii

It should come to the wii, but the graphics should still look the best on the other systems anyway. I hate it when FANBOYS gripe that by porting to another system THEIR version would suck.

...In this case it makes sense to suggest that the above comment is incorrect and even offensive. I am saying this because we all know what multiplatform games or incapable/capable of doing, unless it is produced for each system separately with the sole intention of optimizing the performance on each system. If the game were to be multiplatform, then the 360 might have first dibs on getting the programing and game formatting for it, in which case then the PS3 would be stuck with some sort of port. Whether it is bad or good depends on the producers, however considering that most ports are fairly rough around the edges I would say bad.

Now, I am not whining and saying that the PS3 has been shafted (on the most part though they have), I am just saying that a port of this game; this most crucial next-in-line game of a wonderful series would best be suited for a monoplatform release...specifically on the PS3 because they may very well take the time to use what the PS3 has to offer (i.e., the cell, graphics chip, tra la la).

I think this is what people mean when they say that they don't want it multiplatform. Not because they necessarily despise another console, more so because we (the PS3 gaming public) are tired of getting ports (basically the 360 hand-me-downs). I wouldn't have written to much if this wasn't the said of game of discussion.

I can't believe there's a SO4... SO2 and 3 suck a$$. I sold those games immediately after finishing it. No replay value whatsoever.

Ps3 and 360 only please. If the Wii is in the picture, the game will suck. They have to dumb down games because of the limitations of the hardware. I don't multiplatform, but I don't want it made for the Wii cause it does cripple the other versions. It is a fact people, don't argue with it.

The game will rock, I'm a fan of those games. (My personal favorite is the second)

But I'm sorry for the writer of the article, but I would be really supprised to see the game on the x360 since square-enix do 85% of their money in japan... That's why they don't really care about how big the ps3 sale, since the x360 is selling... no systems in japan. That's why all their games are on japanese systems... (only last remnant and one other game on x360 also since they used unreal engine. but normally, they do their own engin, like the FF13 and vs13 engine (white engine), and that's why they won't make any FFs on the x360, because it would cost too much to port, for maybe 10% of their sales, it's not worth it, it's only good when they traduct (it's already costing a lot of money) the game in english and "voilą!".

anyway, the game will rock and I'm gonna buy my ps3 soon anyway, so I'll buy this one the day it pops (surely li 2009 :'( )

Fact. The Wii outsells the PS3 and XBlowx711.

Fact. Devs will make games for the best-selling concole: the Wii, because it will make them $$$$$$$$.

Fact: Star Ocean will never sell well because they never had. Tossing it on the FPS-dominated XBlowx711 will only lose SE money because there are only 1 out of 20 JRPG nerds who own XBlowx711s.

Fact. If anyone will buy it, it will be Wii owners. The cutesy graphics fit the demographic of the Wii market.

Fact. JRPGs do not do well in other parts of the world besides Asia unless it's Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts. Making a JRPG STRICTLY for an American audience is a huge mistake. Take a look at Blue Dragon. ROFL!

did you even look at the pics, those don't look like cutesy graphics to me. Also historically the Star Ocean games have been on a sony platform and looking at the graphics in the pics they look a little too good for the wii. Also as said above it is unlikely that it will grace the 360 mainly due to its popularity in japan. With all this said I think it will end up on the PS3, which makes me sad because I don't own one yet (can't afford it) and I've always been a big fan of star ocean.

SO2 was a great game with a very high replay value as compared with other console rpgs. So much you can do >_

SO2 was a great game with a very high replay value as compared with other console rpgs. So much you can do, so many cheap strategies.

Star ocean wasn't only released on sony consoles, there have been other games for at least the snes and gamboy with the star ocean title.

I can only hope there are a lot of interesting skills with a lot of worth playing characters like in star ocean 2.

'Edge Maverick'... how original...

Hopefully the game play makes up for the ... 'story'. It seems like the game is the same basic story every time, with a twist.

Fast speed battles. Interesting skills. Super powerful enemies that could border on overpowered. With a lot of investigation the right set of skills and items will lead to powerful abilities.

Also keep the super dungeon. Those are always fun.

 » fact your an idiot!

I'll put it this way so even someone as slow as you can understand

Fact Star Ocean TTEOT sold OVER 1 million copies (1.29 million copies to be exact) and 0.74 million copies were sold in the Americas

Fact two out of the two star ocean games released over here sold VERY WELL it didn't sell well the first time because no one knew WTF it was

Fact Star Ocean did it's best on Playstation so the best choice would be the ps3

Fact all Star Ocean's have been HUGE GAMES (SOTSS - 1.4 GB, SOTTEOT 8 GB to 16 GB depending on if it was DL, SO - 6 MB which HUGE for a SNES game) so i imagine it'll be huge still which could very well mean 40 GB+ Star Ocean 4 which it would be exclusive to ps3 (could go to Xbox 360 it'd just be 3-4 DVDs which isn't that bad, and STOP CALLING IT XBLOWX711 have some respect)

*FACT* it is developed by TRI-ACE!!!!!! Square-enix is the publisher

It was very replay able with different characters to get, different difficultys, different stuff to collect (voices, battle trophies) and it had like 60+ different ending.

JRPG's do pretty well over here even without "final Fantasy" or "Kingdom hearts" slapped on

Star Ocean stands well to do great again over here because it has that Star Wars/Star Trek feeling to it.
