X360 games - Image 1

Everybody knows that the console wars include the number of exclusive titles each console has. Gaming Target decides to keep count. Who's winning the race so far? First, here are the rules:

1. Titles must be "console exclusives".
2. No downloadable games and content packs.
3. No next-gen exclusive
4. No "fantasy games" - those that weren't formally announced.

Given these rules, here are the latest scores as of March 2007. In the lead is the Xbox 360, with 80 titles, 33 released and 47 unreleased. Following this is the Nintendo Wii of 53 titles, 13 released and 38 unreleased, and finally, the PS3 with 39 titles, 9 released and 30 unreleased.

Microsoft's “first out of the gate” mentality obtains it the top spot at the exclusive titles count. Successfully courting Japanese developers, as well as swaying the multiplatform-minded third party game makers to create more content exclusives for the 360 also helped.

The Wii is no sloucher, either, wrangling several exclusives from Ubisoft, Sega, Konami, and even Electronic Arts.

» 360 and Wii are stretching their lead.

The 360 has by far the largest amount of exclusives to come.

The Pattern of software is similer to Worldwide Hardware sales with the Wii and the 360 way ahead.

And with the official conformation that the 360 has now SOLD and not just shipped OVER 10 Million 360s the battle is going to be between the Wii and the 360 for the title of worlds best selling next gen system.

 » so wait...

it doesn't count if say xbox 360 gets a game and ps3 and wii don't but one of the last gen systems does

but it does count when the 360 gets a game the PC also gets?

Of course it counts, Metal Gear solid, Final Fantasy etc are all from PS2 but are still classed as exclusive to the PS3.

 » knew it all along

Wow PS3 has less than half the number of exclusives than the XBOX 360. Combined with the fact that one of the overhyped PS3 exclusives, motorstorm, was a disapointment in many ways, the PS3 isn't doing very good so far at achieving it's supposed 10 year lifespan.

Not a good time to be a PS3 owner

 » i dont care

360 has 33 exclusives released!!?

why do i only have 5? yeah exclusives count but I think what matters most is not how many, but the games itself.

PS3 is less than half the age of the 360 as well... The 360 sucked balls as far as games were concerned when it was released. So much for common sense?

» if you remove the pc games (credit to swifty12 over at Digg)

Here is an updated list, no PC exclusives. I didn't count it if it was a portable game that was the same because those are usually different. Tell me if I made any mistakes.

 » this list is retarded

go back through the list and realize half the games said have previous titles in the series that are for other systems, cant really count that as an exclusive, more or less just a side story, its like saying resident evil 3 for gc is an exclusive because its a remake with new graphics

 » WELL WELL

Its pathetic being Jealous just because a console is getting more exclusives than another, and as usual the ones who have the LEAST games are always trying to make some kind of argument over it, PS3 owners you made your choice in console now accept that there are other consoles that are doing better than yours(I mean there is no exclusive right for the PS3 to lead anything)go and play the releases that you have for your machine and let other console owners be happy that they have more to choose from..

   by hush404 - 2007-03-08
» You need a fifth rule

That excludes exclusives made by a company owned by the console maker. For instance, Halo3, PDZ, Kameo, Fable2, Viva Piñata etc are all made my companies Microsoft bought, thus there's no question about exclusivity.

   Re: qwe (Unregistered) - 2007-03-08
» They are now longer seperate companies

Hush404, if MS bought the companies then that makes those companies part of MS, so they are MS exclusives just as much as you get Sony exclusives.
   by NFGBlinkAC (Unregistered) - 2007-03-08
» How many exclusives will actually be good?

How many of these exclusives for each system are actually going to be worth it? Just cause one system has more exclusives, doesn't mean jack *****. Most PS3 exclusives are either sequels/continuations from the PS2 or from companies that made PS2 games that sold well. Same for the Wii and 360. When you look at the PS3 list, you see many of those titles had predecessors on the PS2 that sold really well. Don't forget that Microsoft had a year start, so thats one reason why it has so many exclusives.

   Re: Advertising -

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2007-03-08
» Suddenly the number of exclusives doesn't matter?

Despite the one year lead, the XBOX 360 has 47 upcoming exclusives vs 30 for the PS3. While any game can't be guaranteed a success, there's 17 more exclusives coming to the 360, so there's a better chance of more great games. With all the hype Motorstorm received, followed by average game site ratings upon release, the difficulty developing for the PS3 is showing. I haven't really seen anything too promising from Lair, Heavenly Sword, or White Knight Story and these are also heavily hyped. Microsoft doesn't do that with any game really, even Gears of War didn't receive much pre-release hype. I know there's some truly impressive exclusive games coming to the 360. Alan Wake looks like it's going to be badass.
PS2 had a 110 million user base, so of course games for that system sold big. It only seems like there's a few PS3 exclusives from the PS2 days, and I expect little more from them than a graphical update.

   Re: hahaha (Unregistered) - 2007-03-08
» number of exclusives never mattered to me

look how many ps2 games were exclusives... and I only had GT, GTA, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear might be more....but not sure if they are exclusives. so roughly 6 exclusives - give or take 3.

number of exclusives dont matter to me, and im sure the 110 million ps2 users didnt bother buying too many exclusives either. the ones I listed above are enough great games for a majority of gamers who bought a ps2.

Since this news has something about xbox being number 1 and ps3 being last.... i knew you would be here.

   Re: Seoulfood (Unregistered) - 2007-03-08
 » Gears

Was hyped to hell. I mean, it did live up to the hype for the most part, but that thing was built up to be the mecca of games, not just by gaming sites, but Microsoft too. The same will go for any game that a software company puts out or invests a lot into. Motorstorm WAS hyped-up a lot too. That unfortunately was not the game to end all games like the devs and sony said, mainly because it was short. It did, however show off a little of a PS3 can handle games and some reviewers said it was the best-looking racer out right now. It was short though. No denying that. But in the end, every company is going to hype up their products. I mean looks at Crackdown. It was a great game, but it was not as good as MS claimed it to be. It was still a $60 Halo beta test with a great free game. But maybe that is just me talking. I am sure that game has garnered a bunch of fans. I am not trying to start any silly bickering, I just wanna put out my thoughts. :)

   Re: Seoulfood (Unregistered) - 2007-03-08
» wait, I take that back

Nintendo does not really hype up their stuff nearly as much as the other companies.
   by ContrAss - 2007-03-08
 » well

from looking at greywolf's list of unreleased exclusives, I do seem to prefer whats on the PS3. 9 games I'd want for the 360 versus the 19 on the PS3.

I guess that would sortof make this article null for me since I prefer whats on the PS3, you know, the console with the least exclusives.

And yeah Greywolf, I cant seem to grasp the concept of 1 game on two platforms as exclusives. So I'll go with IGN's list over gaming target's any day.

   Re: qwe (Unregistered) - 2007-03-08
 » Crap

Oh of course you would and if he listed the games the opposite way round, you would still same the same thing about the other list of games.

   Re: ContrAss - 2007-03-08
 » what are you saying?

i didn't understand what you said. If he listed the games the opposite way around? around what? wait? huh? whatever dude, I'll list the games I'm talking about just to give a picture.

360: Blue Dragon, Dead or Alive Code: Cronus, Eternal Sonata, Fable 2, Halo 3, Infinite Undiscovery, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, Too Human

PS3: Devil May Cry 4, Eight Days, Eyedentify, FFXIII, FFXIII versus, Gran Turismo 5, heavenly sword, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, Killzone, L.A. Noire, Lair, MGS4, Monster Kingdom, Ratchet + Clank 5, Tekken 6, Uncharted: Drake%u2019s Fortune, Warhawk, White Knight Story, WipeOut

I don't know what else to say to you qwe. Maybe opinions matter, maybe they don't. But i guess i just prefer what's on the PS3 in the very near future.

   Re: ContrAss - 2007-03-08
 » soulfood

Itagaki has put off cronus for the longest time now but an answer always remains: It will come. And now with DoA4, DoA X2 released and Sigma being placed in other hands, It's a pretty confident bet that Cronus will be his next announced 360 title.

Don't hold me to it. But remember his statement not to long ago? About a game coming up soon that is like no other? well...we can only imagine.

» This list is pretty useless

So this list is just counting how many exclusives each console has and then giving each console a rank based on that? What is the point of that? I guess it is good for seeing which console is getting which games, but the ranking thing is pretty stupid.

It all comes down to opinion, for me the 360's exclusives are much better than the PS3's. There's seven on the released list I have for the 360 versus the one on PS3 (or one I'd like to have, I don't yet have a PS3 and won't till it has more than just Resistance), but since the 360 has been out much longer what really matters is what's coming. I see 25 on the unreleased list I'll probably be buying for the 360, versus the eight I might buy on the PS3 when they come out if I have one.

   Re: asdf (Unregistered) - 2007-03-26
 » nah

They were saying that about the DS and about the Wii before it was released. The DS has outsold everything but the PS2 (as far as systems that are still on the market) and the Wii has lapped both the 360 and the PS3. Looking at the list of games released and to come in the near future, anything worth playing is on the Wii or PC.

Which system has WoW? Oh, wait, the PC. That's the only "system" that will be here to stay. Consoles will come and go. But your desktop is the only system that will stick around.
