Electronic Arts gives Take-Two Interactive one more week to decide - Image 1

It's not often we get to see a corporate catfight happen in the video game industry. At least, not as big as the one currently happening between Electronic Arts and Take-Two Interactive. Here's the latest in the takeover drama.

If you remember, T2 recently rejected EA's US$ 26 per share offer (amounting to US$ 2 billion) saying that the amount undervalues the company and the value of their games. EA recently replied to this rejection by amending their offer.

The amendment includes an extension of the deadline of their offer by a week. T2 has until April 18 to accept the offer. They also gave the following amendments:
  1. That Take-Two's Board of Directors redeem the preferred stock purchase rights issued as a result of Take-Two's adoption on March 24, 2008 of the stockholder rights plan
  2. Or, that EA be satisfied that such rights have been invalidated or are otherwise inapplicable to its acquisition of Take-Two.
Adding to these conditions, EA's Senior VP of Corporate Development Owen Mahoney gave the following response to T2:

The actions of the Take-Two Board may increase the risk for their stockholders by delaying a potential transaction. We continue to believe that our US$ 26 per share offer price is full and fair.

What happens once the deadline expires and T2 chooses to maintain its current stance? If analyst Michael Pachter's predictions are anything to go by, EA may opt to wait until after Grand Theft Auto 4 comes out, then give T2 a lower offer.

However, this is only one out of many things that can happen. We'll have to wait and see what T2 will decide to do. We'll keep you posted on updates.

 » damn those ** EA

I would refuse that's for sure, and ask my stockholders to wait till GTA4 popped before making their move, since GTA4 will sell at least 5-6 millions of copies in the 1st two weeks, wich will be a first. I can't understand EA, I mean, with those 2 billbions, you can hire 4000 employees at 100 000$ per year (And they are paid WAY under that) for 5 years!!!! If you take in account that they pay them WAY less, the builing is paid for those 5 years, and if you pay 3000 devs instead for those 5 years, you save way enough to buy tons of dev kits and softwares for them. It's the way M$ did with the x360. They wanted to buy nintendo a long time ago, but this would have cost 15G$, so they started their own crappy console that didn't sold well (losses of more than 4G$) followed by the x360 wich is selling great, so now they are ALMOST doing money. Not that I like M$, but I'm more into "try it yourself" than "hit in the back and take the money"...

sorry, I was really upset, now it's okay, lol.

 » yes...

they want to get T2 before the GTA release. There's nothing near. They will sell between the two systems a lot of millions. Hey, this isn't my kind of games and I will buy it, it just look awesome and the multiplayer looks very interesting.

they just want a mature id in the easy way because they need more M games and get rid of the sports games of T2 to have almost the monopoly of games. They already said they are not interested in the sports games of T2 so...

» Do what we want you to do Take 2.

Reject them again. EA is trying to get them using aggression. That's a poor tactic to use here.
