Electronic Arts Terminates Discussions with Take-Two - Image 1

It's like a love story gone wrong. Electronic Arts, who've been hounding after Take-Two Interactive all year for a merger, finally got into closed talks with them earlier this month. And now they just decided to back off. Kinda anticlimactic. Sigh of relief, anyone?

After all that trouble, you'd think EA wouldn't just give up, not after extending their deadline for the merger five times this year. According to their official announcement, they ended the negotiations after seeing what T2 has to offer:

While EA continues to have a high regard for Take-Two’s creative teams and products, after careful consideration, including a management presentation and review of other due diligence materials provided by Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. EA has decided not to make a proposal to acquire Take-Two and has terminated discussions with Take-Two.

I wonder if that previous rumor that EA walked out from the negotiations was really true, and this just formalizes the matter. Anyway, far from being tearful, T2 has quickly moved on, and has released a response to EA's announcement:

We remain actively engaged in discussions with other parties in the context of our formal process to consider strategic alternatives.

Now how about... Square Enix and Take-Two? Grand Theft Auto: Zanarkand?

ea is the microsoft of the game industry. if everyone truelly hated EA they would not be selling games, and would not have money to take over anything.

but, for some reason kids think its cool to bash them on forums, but i bet more than half of them have a few ea games in their collection. Same as MS. Everyone loves to bash them, yet we all run windows. And those of us that dont run windows suffer through using a mac instead. Or the true "stick it to the man" people load linux.

thing is, as uninspired as you think EA's games are, they are STILL in the front of the industry on a lot of levels. I mean, what more do you expect out of the NHL franchise? I remember when it was stick men and players all were the same. The first time they had digitized voices was amazing! Now they have full commentary that plays through the whole game, unique faces that look like the players, and so on. So, to all those who says there is nothing new........ what else do you want? Wayne gretzky to jump out of your tv and play for you???

well they're bound to make a good game eventually after making the same game every year with 1 or 2 new features

i do admit that they do have some good games (IMO) such as command and conquer KW and RA3..well i guess that's it.

but nobody likes the way they obtain these new games.. they buy out good companies and then turn them to ***** eg. westwood when they destroyed C+C (at the time) with Generals.

EA are at the top of the industry because that's all they're good at.. They're a bunch of business men who play the market to get ahead of the industry and SOMETIMES pull a good game out of their hat
