British electronic media protection watchdog Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA) has announced that it is closely working with Nintendo Company Ltd. to try and eradicate the piracy threat the R4 flashcart device imposes on the Nintendo DS market. "We are aware that Nintendo has taken actions against these devices in other countries and we are working closely with them to consider the next step in the UK," said an ELSPA representative.

Just to refresh your memory, the R4 flashcart is touted as one of the best homebrew platforms for the Nintendo DS, but also poses a threat to the industry since it also allows for running downloaded pirated copies of DS games. The ease of downloading and copying games also makes the device very popular for those who don't want to spare any money for the games, but Nintendo has claimed that the DS piracy hasn't reached the mainstream market yet.

It hasn't hit the mainstream market yet because most of the people who own R4s are teenagers and college students who simply don't have enough money to buy the games. Most DS owners are kids anyways.

(in b4 ds fanboy gets pissed off over me saying lots of little kids play DS)

 » Wait, what?

So, the best device on the market, supports MicroSD, DLDI, just about every homebrew app out there, wireless touch-screen browsing (with the add-on cart), and the ability to backup DS games and saves, as well as play them, keeping that copy of FF:Revnant Wings in pristine condition hidden away in the closet until you put it out in that new display case you ordered last Thursday for all your 10s to 20s of mint condition Final Fantasy games....but let's BAN IT BECAUSE IT CAN PLAY ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADED GAMES HURRY BEFORE IT EXPLODES THE ECONOMIES!!!
