EA accountants must be having a heart attack right now. - Image 1Perhaps the analysis presented in this article, that next-gen game prices are due for a cut, was right, and that EA's move to slash ten off some of their 360 titles is only the beginning. Maybe. Talking to the Australian paper The Age, EA Aussie General Manager Ryan Jones predicts significant growth for the games industry in 2007, and that "we do see next-gen pricing drifting down to $99 by the end of the calendar year for all premium new releases."

99 bucks? That's Australian dollars, people, which amounts to around seventy-eight, seventy-nine greenbacks as of today? Okay, games Down Under aren't exactly down under in price. Perhaps one of our Australian readers can enlighten us on the average cost of next-gen games there. But here's a potentially better perspective: Pro Evolution Soccer 6's going for AU$ 111.65 at gamehead.com.au - and that's after discount (Game prices vary widely in that site, though. Again, if any of our readers from Oz can help, you're just one Comment away...).

We wonder if Mr. Jones' opinion applies to certain territories, say, north of the Equator, or if he was just talking about Australia in his comments. He justified his comments by saying that he believes the "transition to next-gen" phase is over. It would be very interesting if other publishers concur with his statement, and if he is also willing to bet the same for markets around the world (not that EA cut any pounds out for England, though). Of course, the only precedent we have is EA cutting ten American dollars off of some of their EA Sports titles.

Some Aussie readers of The Age aren't exactly convinced either, or they must be wondering what we might be putting in the water here. We also choose to be skeptical until the press release. Still, there's a certain porcelain piggy that has been crying for relief.

 » way too expensive

I come from Canada, and am now living in Australia. It was odd the first time I walked into an EB, and Saint's Row was out. I looked at the sticker on the case and it said "trade in 3 of your PS2/Xbox games, and get this game for $79. I damn near had a heart attack. Thankfully I brought my canadian 360 with me and have people back home who ship me new games. Same with my Wii

Prices here in Sydney vary from $89 to $110+. Pretty bad ripoff no matter how you look at it. $100 is the max I will ever pay for a game.

 » EB games pricing

when i go to my EB games store in australia, the prices can be very unbalanced,Xbox 360 games can be very wierd with pricing, some preowned games are sold for $119 while brand new ones could be $70,depends on the popularity of the game though, still,it's incredibly ridiculous pricing for these games, what's worse is that we get everything last,to all americans seeing this, the only word of the PS3 being released here is just a measly A4 piece of paper with the ps3 on it,i cant believe we have to wait until march, and i wont and didnt, got a 360,best thing ever, sony doesnt keep promises, and for that the people will eventually see that and just blow them off like almost everyone here in OZ.

 » I agree.

I have played PS? for over 10 years. Just switched to the Wii because the PS3 follows the PSP... lots of potential, but you just can't trust sony to follow through.

 » au $

Yep average prices are from au$90 to au$120

and at about us$0.75 to au$1.00

I believe that would equal us$67 to us$90

it hurts.
but then again there is no tipping in Aus, and tipping hurts.
you win some and lose some...

Man, you guys need to start shopping at JB Hifi. Family Guy was 37 there, and 50 everywhere else. Hell, Armored Core Nexus was twenty bucks there, and like..fifty at Gamesmen and B.

 » price vary

usually VERY NEW AND VERY HOT GAMES ONLY at aus$110 usually new games are normally aus$90-$100 but i really only get second hand one for less than aus$50.

zelda cost me aus$100, and it was worth it

 » Wow

Really? I got it at Toys R Us for only 80 dollars. Personally i hate Zelda and i'm selling it to a friend for 70 dollars.

 » Yay for region free

from aus
yeah most new games start at around $100, at the launch of the 360 it cost $110 a game. Even still games rarely fall below the $50 mark, thats including PS2 games.

Now that PS3 is region free i'll think i'll get all my games offa ebay now ^_^. I rememba buying Front mission 4 from Canada for around AU$20, where over here it's was hard to find and about AU$80.

 » aussies ripped off

i refuse to pay $100+ for any game. Its a blatent rip off. and they wonder why people pirate software. Usually you can find bargains on ebay. So what if its second hand. And usually if you wait 6-12 months games come down in price. You just have to have patients. and the aussie dollar is worth crap!
