In an E3 interview conducted by Gamasutra with Sony's senior VP of marketing, Peter Dille announced the imminent arrival of a movie download service for the PS3 and the PSP.

While the slim version of the PlayStation Portable was announced during the E3 showcase, Dille explains that the download service was left out of the program because its formal announcement would be a crucial moment for the PlayStation brand and that it's something Sony wants to get right or else they'll "get creamed." He continues:

So we want to make sure we get the consumer experience right, get the right content, and we’re working really hard on it. And I don’t think we’re talking about years, I think this is something we could get behind really soon.

Movie download service for the PSP? - Image 1Dille hopes that users who are still undecided on which console they should choose to buy would see this as the deciding factor. "I think what might convince [people who haven't picked up a PSP] would be the advent of a service that allows them to put content onto the PSP in an easier fashion."

Considering the new slim version of the PSP that has a new display function that can output video into external sets, the service might do just that.

» Already installed on JP version

Under the network they have Portable TV , which is a download service which was implemented into the XMB, I dont see why we need a new one, when the one we already have works fine. (Of course, They could move it over to US firmwares, but w/e)

 » uhhh...

If you don't know about P-TV then you need to read more.

In classic Sony fashion they shafted the NA market and gave the Japanese a service to download big tittied japanese girl videos...oh like at least 1.5 years ago....and still not even some basic service for us.

I know the free videos on PTV expire after a time, i'm not sure about the ones you actually pay for....

Even then, you still need to hook your PSP up to a computer to get the videos....it's not really integrated into the PSP fully....that's what they need is another "blade" like XBL where you then get "music" "movies" and such, then push over and get to see artists...push over....repeat....

We'll see, and also see if it's worth it when I can just DL anything I want and convert it....

 » Getting P-TV

I accidently got P-TV on my psp from upgrading to 3.40 OE-A , i guess i used the japanese 3.40 update..? idk. But anyway! I dont think its for rentals....i think u can just download it and keep it....I haven't used it much so I wouldnt know. I just know that you need an account with their server to download, which is free.

 » nice

That will be a cool feature.

@noob-Well the new PSP slim is the one to have a TV Output so it doesnt need the firmware upgrade. TRhe fat model doesnt have an output so an update wont fix the problem
