Ó

We've all seen enough of those Wiimotes and people hacking into PC's to do all those weird things. But this is just plain scary. Some guy actually used the Sony PlayStation 3's SIXAXIS controller to manipulate a robot. We're not sure if he made that one himself as well, but it really kicks butt.

Okay.... It's a little kinky. Scratch that, it really doesn't seem to do much except what looks like heavy petting with a spider-robot, but hey, we all know there are guys out there smart enough to do crazier stuff. The next thing you know, people could mount cameras on it and start treating us all to peep shows.

By the way, we can't wait for crazier stuff that people can come up with for the Xbox 360 controller. Talk about an interesting sub-battle in the console war.

Thanks to Jim for the news tip!

i am first post and that is just a magnet... but its legs are held down so it dont fly up

 » Wrong

That isn't a magnet. Otherwise it wouldn't go down when he moved the controler down.

 » its sad

how very sad to know LOTS of people does not use common sense at all. not even bothering to investigate facts and just JUDGE things. that video is a simple example of technology yet lots of people easily misunderstood it.
http://www.pabr.org/sixlinux/sixlinux.en.html
they used a gumstix board with bluetooth, the sixaxis make the appropriate commands, the gumstix receive it then commands is processed on the 6 R/C servos connected to it.

thats real....u can see the servos at the bottoms of the legs.....not hard to do if you have the right equipment

This isnt fake, he's got 6 servos moving everything. If it were a magnet how is the rig moving b4 he controller even gets near it......

Magnets either repel or attract not both at the same time. If it was a magnet it would not go down when he moved the controller down unless the poles were the same, when he moves the controller up it would not move the robot up unless the poles were opposite.

How stupid are fanboys, really? obviously its real, a magnet would be much less stable, and would not be reacting the same way. seriously, stupidity is encroaching the united states.

Of course this is real. The link that was submitted to QJ.net included the link to the author's page -- pabr.org/sixlinux -- where he details exactly how to get the Sixaxis working with Linux yourself, as well as some details on the robot.

 » Neat

Now if only he can add legs and a camera, He'd have a neat little spider bot with the camera controlled by the tilt of the sixaxis.

 » cool

actually yes they can do that now!
and they can also do much better things than having a peeping bluetooth controlled mechanical spider. ^_^

If you think this is done with magnets, you should seriously think about visiting a mental institute.
Unless ofcourse you're a Redneck from the south of USA, in which case you probably have never seen a PS3, and magnets are probably only just reaching your neck of the woods..!

   Re: USAempire (Unregistered) - 2007-04-29
 » third world retard

hi mr. knowing-all arrogant,

Let me think, South USA: Texas Instruments, Lockheed, NASA, etc. Mmmm... by the way, Rednecks got second gen rovers up and running in Mars, something NO OTHER country has ever achieve or are even near it. The filthy Brits made a lame attempt and lost it!! LAWL. Let me continue "you prolly have never seen a PS3". Ok, IBM invented the CELL which the PS3 uses, and IBM is from USA. Lastly, USA was the country were most ps2 were sold, therefore MORE americans will "see" ps3 than any other people in the world. Wait I forgot one more thing, internet!! USA invented the internet which allows you to post this really retarded comment.

ehem... I just wonder from what Third World country you belong too, most likely surviving on USA foreign aid. Usually third world country ppl are sooo jealous of USA culture and technology and have this strong sense of inferiority that the only way to feel well about themselve is by insulting Americans as ignorants.

Also USA isn't all Redneck (you prolly mean anglo-saxon) population, halve are hispanics.

But your naive thoughts wont get me angry, I feel sorry for your rather pathetic plight. Instead I will donate my NES to you, so you'll have some fun!! What's your address?

   Re: Sonny (Unregistered) - 2007-04-30
 » Fool

I said SOUTH OF USA.
Majority of employees at NASA and Lockheed etc. are not originally from the south, but from around the whole country. I have no issue with USA. I clearly said if you think this is done with magnets, you must be a redneck from the SOUTH OF USA.
Also, England is not a third-world country, and you seem to be the arrogant one, only recognising what USA has accomplished, and thinking all other countries are inferior.
USA was built on the back of slavery, and slavery would not have been abolished for a long time, if it hadn't been for England abolishing it 31 years earlier.
Don't be so arrogant, open your eyes, and learn how to take a joke.

   Re: Sonny (Unregistered) - 2007-04-30
 » P.S

The language you're using originated England too. So Mr. USAempire, why don't you choose another language?

 » Not a magnet

Now ive been reading up on ALL THESE INSULTS ABOUT THE USA AND ENGLAND and all i can say is WTF. For us americans if we call the people from england stupid then that means we are calling ourselves stupid . If the english are calling us stupid they are calling themselves stupid since basicly Americans are english since we origonated from england. (unless you are an immigrant from another country) even though our president is stupid doesnt mean we are all stupid. Just like how Bush has gotten all of us to think Musilms are all terrorists, and guess what........ they are not. Now this basicly means we are all stupid since we have let a little misconception erupt into a huge fight. ok now with that being said to those people who think its magnets even though it may look like it. you can see the little red light on the controller on meaning that it is on. now if a magnet were to be strapped near the battery thelight would not be on because magnet+battery= Bye bye battery. I may be wrong on this but im not testing.
