PSP

If you liked the sound of Cpasjuste's Dark_Alex SE-B Overclocking module 01, which was originally released yesterday, then you'll love this. Version 01 of the module that allows you to overclock your PSP whilst using Dark_Alex's SE-B or SE-B' custom firmwares was a little limited, with all games playing at 333mhz with no option to change it, giving your battery a bit of a drain and not allowing you to play games via WiFi.

Today, Cpasjuste releases version 02 of his SE-B overclocking module which expands on the abilities of version 01 by giving you the choice of clocking your PSP to 333Mhz, 300Mhz or 111Mhz. Why? Here's a run-down of what each setting allows you to do:
  • 333 Mhz (Fast but no Wi-Fi in games)
  • 300 Mhz (Fast with Wi-Fi working in games)
  • 111 Mhz (Slow but saves battery life)
Also, a little side note for users planning to clock their PSPs at 111Mhz: You may find that games are unplayable or simply won't run with your PSP set at such a clock speed, so be careful. We do not advise you to flash your PSP to set the clock speed lower than the standard 222Mhz speed the PSP's CPU runs at already. Remember, the XMB will still run at 222Mhz when you use this module for safety purposes.

Cpasjuste's overclocking module 02 also gives you the option to uninstall the module safely, which version 01 didn't allow you to do. But remember, this module does flash your PSP, so be vigilant. Remember the rules of flashing: make sure your PSP has ample battery life, take out any UMD, and if you want to be really careful, plug in the AC Adaptor. When you use this application, a module is flashed to flash0 (oc.prx) and a "pspbtcnf_game.txt" file is updated to take care of this. Only UMD or ISO games should use this module since it's launched with the 2.71 firmwares files, homebrew that uses 1.50 modules should not use it.

 » Hmm

I might try it but still worry about it writing on the flash and wont be able to switch back to normal mode when I want to run homebrew.

 » Good update

I will now be giving this a try and since my Psp has the UP Chip in it, I never have any concerns about bricking. I will set this one to 300MHZ.

don't fry your chip lol, this stuff desined to work for normal hardware.. not one with chip...

 » Still no working wifi?

Would it work with the wlan.prx from a 2.0 dump?

That was the fix for the nonworking wifi at 333 in devhook

Seems like a waste of time still untill it's fully functional

» Dude, I already had to reflash 2.71SE-B once today because of this thing...

The original comment about ISOs not working after this wasn't false... NTM, I can't handle the glitches. Why can't a module like this do something like the devhook prx where you set the clock speed with home + select... Then it wouldn't be such a semi-permenant setting and allow much more room for possible uses.

   by 1.50 (Unregistered) - 2006-10-29
 » 1.50

you can set 1.50 to 333mhz with out any glitchs you cant even load devhook at 333mhz with the lan problem fixed you can load ISO and all that junk.... 1.50 is just where its at im staying there till 3.00 becomes cracked so I can use the PSone emulator. 2.71 only "big new" feature is a crummy web brower and RSS which no one uses and the location free player which cost money the only good thing I see in 2.71 is how you can view .png and butmap pictures...

» Ok if u use only UMD lol

in the last edition 2.71 SE-B 2 u can run iso Without devhook , directly in game folder (u dont have to switch home R L) and u can use NO UMD Mode (The best Thing ) u can run iso without umd and u dont waste the battery

» Iv already tried flashing the 2.0 wlan prx over the 2.71 wlan prx...

It just bricked my psp, had to use recovery mode to fix it. You can get wifi working @333mhz with devhook 2.71f however. Put the 2.0 wlan.prx in the 'ms0:/dh/271F/flash0/kd' folder. Then modify the 'pspbtcnf' & 'pspbtcnf_game' files in that folder and change the line '$/kd/wlan.prx' to '/kd/wlan.prx'.
Now wifi works @ 333mhz with devhook 2.71F.

 » Possibility?

i was just wondering if i switched the screenshot.prx with the oc.prx and modified the pspbtcnf_game.txt to also say screenshot.prx, would you be able to use the screenshot module on 2.71se-b?

i just thought it was a neat idea

   Re: Cpasjuste (Unregistered) - 2006-10-29
 » yep

Yep you can give a try, just rename the screenshot.prx to oc.prx then use my tool to flash it. If it deosnt work replace again with the original one (oc.prx). I think it wont work i tried to use buttons without succes.
Also be carefull, you will do it at your own risk.

   Re: stuart23765 (Unregistered) - 2006-10-29
 » ?

i was wondering if there would be a way of uninstalling afterwards

would i just leave the .prx and modify the button config or would your installer remove it?

   Re: DarkK (Unregistered) - 2006-10-29
 » Just tested, works fine.

Too bad CheatMaster doesn't seem to work this way. Maybe the module is too big to fit in flash?

 » Just flashed 300mhz

This module works great! I'm running my ISOs at 300mhz now and it was the quickest and easiest install I think yet! I don't know what this "1.5" guy is saying, he's probably just afraid of being a newb and somehow bricking his psp, I've been waiting to be able to upgrade from 1.5 with a set-up like this for so long!!

THANKS DARK_ALEX AND CREW, GREAT MOD CPASJUSTE!!

" I don't know what this "1.5" guy is saying"
most dev's are still on 1.00, you *****.

» LOL man There is nothing u cant do with a 2.71 SE-B

u can do more thing on 2.71 SE-B and if u dont like it u can RECOVERY in 1.50 anf downgrade 1.5-1.00 but btw u can run backup faster, directly from game folder and without Umd thats the BIG diff between 1.5 and 2.71 SE-B`

 » ooooooooo babby

1.5 guy needs a 2.71 SE-B life.

 » directory preferences

The "oc" folder has to be placed in the GAME150 folder. That sucks since all my other homebrews are in the GAME folder. Cpasjuste, can this be changed to run from either GAME or GAME150 folders? Great work by the way, my compressed games run smoothly now at 333Mhz!

by Annonymous Coward (Unregistered) - 2006-10-29
 » directory preferences

I am guessing that it only needs to be in the Game150 folder due to it needing kernel mode access. If you have set all of your homebrew to run in 1.5 kernel access from the recovery menu as opposed to 2.71 then it should work.

Re: random fan (Unregistered) - 2006-10-29
 » RE:

Yes, I do have the SE-B' firmware set to have the GAME folder run 1.50 kernel homebrew. When launching the oc mod from the GAME folder, it searches for the two flash files in PSP/GAME150/oc, throws an error, then returns you to the XMB. If the oc mod could search the PSP/GAME/oc path, there wouldn't be a need for having the GAME150 folder.

» gota love this developer's metality

Hey dev haxor!!! How about you actually put in 222MHz in the option list? WoW, what a concept... give the user the option to actually run at normal speed.

Sure, you may ask "Well, if they want to run at full speed, why don't they just not use my add-on?" Very simple responce genius... the user wants the option to overclock in games while playing on 2.71 SE firmware... the SAME options they have in DevHook, which they may be straying away from now because DevHook has ISO (somewhat working) support, so they want to become less dependant on the DevHook option.

So, your best intensions would be to build your "add-on" options with the same features/capabilities in it if you're going to want to give the users similar options.

Think logically people... even if some of you still have some growing up to do.

 » Huh?

I don't get it, how is this overclocking if it was designed to run at 333Mhz?

   Re: Advertising -

   Re: not (Unregistered) - 2006-10-30
 » doesn't matter

Doesn't matter if the PSP was designed to run at 333MHz natively without being considered overclocking. The simple fact that you're going over the OEM settings in the MHz speed is what defines it as overclocking. By default (the way Sony made it) the thing runs at 222MHz. Drop below that and it's underclocking, go over and it's overclocking. The fact that it still runs and may be just as stable does not change that fact.
