Ó

Well now, here's a nice way to start the week: Dark AleX has explained to everyone how and why the TA-088 PSP motherboard can't be hacked just yet. In a nutshell, here's the deal:

Dark AleX's TA-088 flowchart - Image 1

Now in a slightly more expanded nutshell, here's the flowchart in paragraph form: see, TA-088 is bolstered with a couple of security checks that center around the boot code. It is this code (also sometimes referred to as the pre-IPL or IPL loader) in the new Slim motherboards that makes it almost virtually impossible to hack. In the simplest way that DAX could explain it:

basically, all security of newest psp cpu's rely on the secrecy of the calculation of those 0x20 bytes. If pre-ipl were dumped somehow, the security would go down TOTALLY.

The "0x20 bytes" that he refers to here are currently unknown. And since that's the case, the new motherboards don't allow any downgrading below FW 4.00 because "these new CPUs won't be able to boot previous firmwares' IPLs."

If you want to know more about the specific nuts and bolts of DAX's full explanation, you can always check out the Via link below (caution: PSP coding jargon ahead!).

Thanks to tipster Fadil for the heads up!

"probably", this............"probably", that.........."probably" anyone who uses the word probably thinks he or she is a genius for "probably" in their tiny brain thinking they have Sony all figured out.........I love homebrew and CFW but I am not so simple minded as others to think they are simply outsmarting Sony and just call Sony dumb without acknowledging that Sony might have a back up plan............What do you think every new model of PSP means you geniuses of the word "probably"............It's a never ending fight from Sony protecting their assets and from us users wishing to use CFW............this is simply facts get it straight.....not something "probably" because you're in denial that Sony is smarter than you....or "probably" because you're too busy fiddling with yourself

sony figures that they might get thier ass whooped with lack of psp sales since a fair amount of people pandorize it. i know a lot dont want it for just a couple of games but for homebrew. at least in my opinion.

Although I agree with the general idea of houaruto, I must say I have a very bad opinion of IT engineering in japanese companies (I've worked for one for years), and I consider it really possible that sony repeatedly screws things up in their software division due to bad hierarchy decisions.
So although they may have a backup plan, you should also consider the idea that they have a very bad team in charge of PSP's security systems and/or embedded software...
Anyone who's ever owned a VAIO knows what I'm talking about.

what rock have you been living under? do you actually think the people at sony are cyborgs or some superbugbrains? i don't think they are, i think they have PEOPLE working for them. thats right people. and guess what? these people aren't half as smart as Dark AleX, and thats why they have to do what they do.
wtf is wrong with you for even trying to take ANYTHING away from DA or any of the people who let us do what we want to our psp's? there is one fact, and it is true: people like DA keep sony on their feet, and make sony do what they do, do you have any idea how much money sony has to spend to try and combat DA and the m33 crew? it's more than you have, with your cheap ass trying to save a dollar using memory card to play games. man, houaruto STFU. sony is not smarter than anyone. ***** sony anyways. those *****s always want to try and make their own version of something to make you have to buy their *****,: pro duo memory sticks, umd disks, mini disks, blu ray

Do you not see the irony in what you just said?

You have it reversed. Sony made something that WE (I mean DA/homebrew community) have changed. Also, do YOU have any idea on how much Sony has spent trying to combat homebrew? I highly doubt it. Unless you have a figure for me, shut it. The firmware was designed with the hardware aspect. They were built to read a good format, the UMD, hold 1.8 gigs, which is enough. The pro duo;s are an option really, you only need virtually 1 MB to only play games on a PORTABLE GAMING CONSOLE.

Anyone that has wanted to hack there psp since oct. 2007 has wanted to for only one reason. Pirating games. I give mad props to DA, but really, you need to shut your pre-pubescent mouth, and die.

ur just mad because u cant hack ur TA-088 V3 or because u dont know how...u a hypocrite as well because everyone in the world wants things for free and if u cant understand that then u are very re+arted

You must hate every corporations in the world because they want to make money by making their own products. Microsoft does the same thing and flash money around in order to get people to buy their products. Sony sells their own things to reduce the competition by making their product more popular I say that is great business strategies for both Microsoft and Sony and other companies out there

Learn how to read before making a fool out of yourself.....you dig your hole of stupidity deeper as you blindly accuse me of things I have not said a word against..........I love homebrew, I have CFW, I have privated 1 game Monster Hunter Portable 2 G because it is japanese only and it'll take years to reach us............that's my background...........so get your facts straight.......I've never said Sony is smarter than DAX.......I love and support DAX....fricken learn 2 read......I mention Sony is smarter than you people who always use the word probably to freely trash talk anything.......DAX does not do that, sorry I had to point out things to the general public because 1 idiot has been living under a rock..........simple fact is every new model of the PSP is meant to stop CFW....It doesn't take a genius to figure it out...........As I'm almost positive Sony will keep making new modes to combat CFW as long as CFW is alive........hence this is a never ending fight between CFW and Sony....this is just the nature of the situation and just stating the obvious.....Every corporation has a back up plan and needs one to stay competition, and to earn their keep, Don't think Marketing is all about putting pretty ads on TV..........you may be in denial about it all you want, but Sony+ All the people who work for the corporation and the maker of PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP.......they are smarter than 99% of us on this site considering 1% on here are geniuses......last time I checked you're the one using the PSP made by Sony, If you're smarter than Sony Why can't you make your own handheld device............to sum everything up, learn 2 read because I haven't said anything I haven't posted above........It's immature fools who don't know how to read and blindly accuses others .........because their tiny brain can't understand the logic and comprehend any common sense.

@tanman37
Youre a dumbass not everyone who has hacked psps pirate. I didnt install cfw with the entent to pirate. I did it so that i could have an opensource device that i could play homebrew on. I DONT PIRATE. its sually the pirates that try to accuse others of pirating so go somewhere before you really piss me off

   Re: majorbb100 - 2008-10-06
 » haha

sure..........of course you dont pirate games........just like no one else here does lol

   Re: -Black*Burd- - 2008-10-07
 » @majorbb100

uhm yeah i dont pirate. i only have 4 games and those 4 games are the only ones i have in my game folder other than homebrew.
I dont even try them out through iso. I think that actualy stealing them is way better it proves you got balls unlike just downloading a iso thats for people who have no balls and would rather steel it without anyone able to stop you. In my opinion pirating is steeling and its just not me but if it was ide have the balls to actually steal it.

back to the topic at hand.....

I think its time for some of the tools that bushing used to sniff the boot1 from Wii. They should be able to use the tweezer attack on something like this as well..... find out what the pre ipl contains and see if there is a way to exploit it.

I bet you DAX has it figured out mostly already. He is just waiting for the new psp3000 to be out ont he shelves so he can try his POC. then release it right away.

here is to hoping anyway!

remember when pandora came out when 3.50 came out, someone leaked it before the slim came out. i hope this isnt a repeat for psp 3000.

» pirating is not right BUT.....

...I will still do it. Why?

1. Games are expensive
2. Not all games worth the money. Any games that I really like, I bought the UMD like SH:O, DJMAX1&2, Castevania, MGPO etc.
3. Pirating allow me to try games that I wouldn't have the chance to play if buy originals. You will never know you might get hooked on one of the games and support it.
4. Emulation. I love the CPS1, CPS2, GBA and Neo-Geo emu and I think they are perfectly done on PSP.

   by Extremist - 2008-10-07
 » Hmm...

You write that actually STEALING a game (I guess you mean from a shop) is better than copying a .ISO file 'cause "it proves you got balls". Guess you won't find many companies agreeing to that part!

Then you criticise pirating since "pirating is steeling" in your opinion.

So what is it, is stealing the same as pirating or is stealing better than pirating?

   Re: -Black*Burd- - 2008-10-07
 » yeah

stealing is better in my opinion but pirating is a more watered down version of stealin in wich its almost impossible to get caught therefor making an uneven playing feild. atleast if you are stealing people know your not just scared so you pirate.
So yes STEALING IS BETTER THAN PIRATING.

 » Blah blah blah!!

Simple answer is this. Some people dont want a psp that they cant use cfw on this = less sales for sony. If homebrew completely dies out there will be a pretty descent drop in psp sales. I know i will be one of the people that wouldnt buy a psp. The only way i would buy a psp without cfw is if sony added alot more to the psp and made a major major multimedia device. Maybe even a phone. We still havent even got the gps in the US or the camera. Seems to me homebrew is the only thing that the US has to look forward to with the psp. The games just dont seem to cut it.
