PSP logo - Image 1PlayStation Portable users who are into the Sony handheld's homebrew gaming scene better get ready to update their custom firmware, now that Dark AleX just released an update to 3.90 M33 (previous update here).

So what does this revision add to the already useful custom firmware? This M33-3 release enhances the compatibility and performance of the M33's NO-UMD driver. Here are also some of the fixes that are included in this custom firmware update:

March33 NO-UMD driver compatibility has increased to support games like Coded Arms, Patapon, Harvest Moon Innocent Life and probably others affected by same errors.

As always, it is strongly recommended that you go over the readme file included before you attempt to install this latest version of Dark AleX and M33's 3.90 custom firmware.

I'm going to try this on the PSP that www.swatcash.com/admin gave me. Sadly, this invincible feeling that pandora has given me makes me feel sad, since I am almost 90% sure that Sony is going to make their next portable game system immune to homebrew (not counting the inevitable Tetris/mini homebrew games that we'll be able to run once we hello world it). Oh well.

 » some understanding

im currently on 3.52-m33 would it be worth my time to upgrade and to this cfw and use the time machine
what is the time machine does it allow you to play all kernals or what

also anyone know how far the bottom media bar xmb theme will let you go up to eg is there one for 3.9

thanks

   Re: akadewboy - 2008-03-30
 » .

Don't bother with Time Machine if you have a fat PSP. Time Machine is only useful for the slim so you can run the 1.50 kernel.

   Re: M33 User - 2008-03-30
 » Don't listen

It can be used for unbricking or still having use of a full bricked psp so you can make a pandora battery.

   Re: stiks - 2008-03-31
 » .

it can also be used to go down to 3.6 on the slim where there are less problems with eloader and other 1.5 firmware homebrews that have problems with the TM 1.5/3.4 hybrid

and not just fully bricked psp's it will boot psp's with a fully destroyed flash (i call that beyond bricked) like if the flash chip is physically damaged due to drops etc. tested this on a broke psp worked like a charm

I told people not to use 3.93 patch because there are still problems.

guess he's bothering with the new fw then?

   Re: Foolmonkey - 2008-03-30
 » oops

i mean he's NOT bothering with it

   Re: TheLastGuitarHero - 2008-03-30
 » ...

Why would he?

   Re: Foolmonkey - 2008-03-31
 » blah

i knew he wouldn't, he already stated that he would only be making cfw for MAJOR fw updates. but sooner or later games are gonna be requiring newest firmware and we'll need a new cfw

both coded arms and HM:IL worked for me since they came out, befor this firmware? hows this fixed anything? were they broken at some point?

   Re: digicron - 2008-03-30
 » @ xLinkinwormx

perhaps you were using the Sony np990 loader driver instead of the M33 one.
   by gr8tlegend - 2008-03-30
 » Better or worse?

Is this better than 3.90 m33-2, it's currently the fw that I have. I was unimpressed I had problems playing ps one games and getting pops loader to work also I tried to downgrade it, pandora and the magic mem stick worked perfect in my dads fat psp but not in my slim??? whats up with that ??? can someone help with those 2 issues and is this one better firmware?

   Re: FreePlay - 2008-03-31
 » .

Obviously you don't have the memory stick set up for slim PSPs.

   Re: Foolmonkey - 2008-03-31
 » @ Freeplay

wtf are you talking about? slim doesn't have a different setup

For everyone wondering, this does not fix the FlatOut HeadOn 'returning to menu load bug' - right now the game is only playable with NP9660.prx.

   by iamback(unregistered) - 2008-03-31
 » ...

I love the stupidity some people have. "I don't want to go through the hassle of changing from the m33 driver to the np9660 driver because it's too tedious. Instead, I'll go to a download site, download the file, unzip it, connect my PSP, run the upgrade, wait for the upgrade, then change the driver to the new version."

It almost makes me lol. ALMOST.

   Re: JaXeRiR - 2008-04-01
 » Maybe,

MAYBE I use OTHER games like Patapon, which works better with the new driver, and I changed the driver to the M33 one and used it to play Patapon, and then I played FLHO and it didn't load, so I posted here.

So STFU, and if you didn't know the Network Update downloads the new M33 update these days!

 » NICE WORK DA

April 2 become March 33
System info
Version 3.33 M33-3
Nickname: March 33
Mac Adress: 33:33:33:33:33:33
and the waves in the backround become faster haha

   Re: godmind - 2008-04-02
 » ??? what's with that ???

I just finished upgrading then the same thing came out --

April 2 became March 33
System Info
Version: 3.33 M33-3
Nickname: March 33
MAC Address: 33:33:33:33:33:33

Is this DA's prank for April Fools? Or is it a glitch? Forgive me for being a noob but it's the first time that I actually did the upgrading with my own. I used to take it to a friend and have him upgrade for me. :)

Is it me or is anyone having the "NO UMD" problem for the 3.90 m33-3. cause when i dont put a UMD it still cant read the game unless theres a UMD?

   by JaXeRiR - 2008-04-02
 » Haha!

Anyone with me, do you think that this update didn't even do anything to the M33 driver, just added these April fools? :D

I think that's funny! :D

 » March 33....

Uhhg, great now I have to pandora my psp back to 3.90 M33-2. An update to a driver that I never use (the Sony one works fine for me) is not worth messing up the date and the MAC address (which I need to know in order to connect to some of my friend's routers). Oh well, I guess I can't be too angry considering all that DA has done for me and those like me. April fools.

» I don't know if this is bad or what but

when I installed this my MAC number became all 3's and the XMB waves go faster. As long as this doesn't cause other problems, I kind of like the faster waves.

   by Smokey65662 - 2008-04-02
 » Waves

I wish the faster waves was actually a option.
Even the date is 3/33.
I thought this was a error with my psp :-(

   by godmind - 2008-04-02
 » Thay's clearly a prank.

Set your date manually to the current date. That should fix the version, nickname and MAC Address.

I'm not clear yet if it was really an update by DA or just a prank or both. But it does make April 2 a March 33. I first thought it was a glitch or something but DA wouldn't have released it if he had not tried it first.
