Custom Firmware 3.95 GEN release date announced, compatible with PSP Fat - Image 1

MaGiXieN tipped us off to a new post made by the developers responsible for developing Custom Firmware 3.95 GEN, and it says that the new CFW will be available through download for Sony PlayStation Portables by midnight of Saturday (May 31, 2008).

The developers assure you that 3.95 GEN is functional, and their latest build even alleviated the compatibility problems with PSP Fat models. Yes, they've overcome the Fat's memory limitations.

But that's not all - the team has even taken steps to ensure that the VSHMENU from Popsloader, IRShell (well, most of it), and CXMB were tested on 3.95 GEN. The results they've got is a mixed bag (of butter popcorn): while VSHMENU support is extended and confirmed working, IRShell's ISO, UMD loading functionality and CXMB operation won't work without updates.

That said, however, the team has listed what they've added to the new build of CFW 3.95 GEN, and they are as follows:

What's new...

...in General:
  • Compatibility with the official firmware 3.95
...in Recovery:
  • Option to choose between various sources of updates (GEN Server, Server M33 or official server)
  • The option to choose between VSHMenu or Recovery accessible via the SELECT button in VSH.
...in VSH:
  • Access to recovery / vshmenu via press SELECT (adjustable)
  • Updated network directly on the server via PSPGEn icon Network Update (adjustable)
The developer team says that they've managed to test several other homebrew programs, and they've been found to be working 'conclusively.' Excited? Well, the team is inviting all those interested to come back online by Saturday midnight for a ball with Custom Firmware 3.95 GEN - a 3.90 PSP CFW with 3.95 official bonus features support.

Once again, our hats tip off to MaXiGieN who called our attention.

 » m33 Update?

Basically Team *****, errr Team GEN (or whatever they call themselves) made themselves a new CFW based on the works of m33. But isn't that stupid they didn't remove the m33 update function? Imagine this: if ever m33 release new updates will it actually work on a GEN CFW? ~_~

But yeah, Team GEN wants internet fame. :l

» if u can't say anything good then just shut up!

so what bhitchboy?! they are good programmers(team GEN).I bet u cant even code a simple program! i f u don't want their cfw then dont! this is for those who r only interested. and Bruv! u really deserve to be slapped down the chops don't cha?!

   Re: Advertising - 2008-05-30
» if ever m33 release new updates....

Yes it would work on GEN firmware. Know why? because the updater is just a program, just like homebrew (with some sony flasher parts included). Read and get informed before bashing anything. If people want to go to M33 when an update comes, they will be able to. Hope you feel stupid now. Certainly you are on your way..

M33 > Gen

you really are a dumb piece of turd and you still don't realize it. hehehe... bless you, you poor child. you can't code, you don't know how these things work, and you talk crap. hahaha...

"Imagine this: if ever m33 release new updates will it actually work on a GEN CFW?"

hahaha... even a dog has a wider imagination than you have... hehehe...

again, bless you little turd.

 » Silence

Ya, cause, y'know, its not like M33 has ever intentionally bricked PSP's before.

Read up on 3.52 M33 then come back here and keep saying infinityice is stupid/ignorant/can't code.

   Re: JaXeRiR - 2008-05-31
 » @sunami88

Nobody was ever in danger with that, M33 just coded it so that it some dumb idiot would edit the updater EBOOT in any way the updater would turn into a bricker.

And that's exactly what the PS3News guy did, he edited it to say it's made by him or something, dunno...

Anyway, that's old stuff, and it is true: the M33 team has never made brickers!

About this GEN firmware... I'll just stick to 3.90 M33 for now and see what else they might bring us later. If team M33 brings us 4.00 M33 first, and then the GEN guys reverse-engineer it and add some useless crap (not saying that this is crap) then we'll know that they've just like becus25 and those people... But who knows, 4.00 GEN might just come earlier than 4.00 M33.

   Re: sunami88 - 2008-05-31
 » @JaXeRiR

Now this I could be wrong about, so if I'm wrong correct me. But I recall reading at the time it also checked your browsers history and if PS3News was in there, bam, brick.

In either case, someone peeved them off and they took it out on users PSP's. What if they decide these GEN guys did something they didn't like?

Answer: You get a brick my friend.

   Re: JaXeRiR - 2008-05-31
 » @sunami88

I don't think that it actually read your browser's history, that was just something to scare the people who go to PS3News.com.

And we have heard Mathieulh talk about GEN, and I don't think M33 has anything against GEN. Besides, Team GEN does not hex-edit the EBOOTs, they reverse engineered all the M33 firmware files etc.

   Re: UltimaArmorX - 2008-05-31
 » Yeah dude, good call.

I lack the meaningless "interest" in something as unnecessary as an extended firmware 3.90.
My PSP would be fried by the time FW 5.0 arrived if they keep making these firmwares, and I kept using them......

 » NICE!

Great to see that there are soo many talented groups out there to keep Homebrew Alive.

Can't wait to try it out.. I just hope the Pops Support is good 2 go on this one.

   by Nathanias - 2008-05-31
 » If this firmware...

...supports the 3.95 pops, and the 3.95 pops runs MGS, that's all I need.

   Re: JaXeRiR - 2008-05-31
 » ...

I don't know if the 3.95 POPS has changed that much from 3.80+. You could just use POPSLoader and try to run it with 3.52 POPS or something.

   Re: Nathanias - 2008-05-31
 » JaxeRiR

I mean that the 3.95 pops lets you customize each button for PS1 games

» cmon man, give them the benefit of choice

hehehe... it's like waiting for a release of a certain game. everybody knows it's already finished but still they have to wait for it to be released. :)

a few hours isn't that long now, is it? :)

 » -_-"

in the last update i could've sworn it said that POPS only works for the slim -_-"

   by NA1NSXR - 2008-05-31
 » HX all over again

I don't get why everyone has to put down anything not M33. I see a lot of people enjoying "remix" XMB themes, alternate versions of homebrews, and other stuff built off of existing work. A lot of us will choose not to use it, like me, but that is different from saying that these guys are just out for fame or whatever. If I weren't already satisfied with my current setup so much, I would definately install this firmware. In fact, I like the recovery feature a lot and I hope it gets implemented in the next M33. Forbid one day DaX or M33 really retire from the scene, teams like GeN will be our only hope for continued development of new CFW's.

   Re: Nathanias - 2008-05-31
 » Exactly

A little variety never hurt anyone.

It's like saying that Releasing a game similar to another is very bad. As long as it isn't a clone, I don't mind

   Re: BerkleyJ - 2008-05-31
 » YOUR WRONG

GEN will NOt be our continued hope cause they never actually made anything the only CFW created from the ground up was from DAX. Do you actually think GEN can built firmware. NO they just added stupid ass recovery features to 3.90m33 and caledd 3.95GEN. IT's *****
   by NDWolfwood - 2008-05-31
 » Phat POPS

does any1 know if this firmware's POPS work on PSP Phat? i heard it doesn't. err at least i thought it said that in the last update. ty =)

 » oh

I think they said they fixed it in the article

 » Junk another junk

crap crap another crap, hope everything works exactly as fw3.90 m33 cause if its not i`m not even try 2 test it

   by josefool213 - 2008-05-31
 » thank god

im very thankfull that 3.95 gen is for psp phat too. now i don't have to get a slim. = )

   by BerkleyJ - 2008-05-31
 » Why the Hell

would you update to this...? Really GEN is ***** they just reverse engineered DAX's 3.90m33 and their trying to call it 3.95 cause its "compatible" WTF. I'd rather keep a trustworthy persons firmware than some ***** GEN just trying to get attention from someone elses work. However if they create a brand new firmware as in 4.00 GEN then maybe they're gain my trust. but as far as I know GEN are ***** stealing reversing engineering liars.

   Re: Bolec - 2008-05-31
 » oh man...

Now you are showing your lack of knowledge. Team GEN asked Math about the rights to publication this firmware and Math allowed them to make it public. I think this is good guarantee, because I don't believe, that noone from M33 Team didn'd install it just to check it on their PSPs.

 » cam on guys

Some of u guys don’t appreciate what u have.
Some time ago when Dark Alex announced he was leaving the seen every1 was like hey what now...
And now that you have M33 DAX and GEN all programming Grate firmware’s you just judging GEN C coz they new same happened with m33 b4 they developed some firmware’s and DAX was announced 2b part of it give GEN a shot

   by frostbitehunter - 2008-05-31
» guy above me is right

the guy above me is right.give team gen a chance.i had no problems with the 3.93 cfw that came from them.who cares if its reverse engineered.its reversed engineered cause um lets see.oh ya without reverse engineering it alot of ***** wouldnt work you wouldnt be able to have custom themes.certain programs would cease to work, and psx games isos csos etc wouldnt work.if they made an entire new firmware your basically telling them to create a firmware where everythings new.from scratch.reverse engineer or not,it takes skill to even code it to be reversed.so yes if m33 and dax leave teamgen could very well make updates still to m33s work and every other devs work.its like ive said before.you dont trust it cause its not dax or m33 then delete your mem stick, cause alot of homebrew programs were not made by them as well.same with roms, isos etc.give teamgen a chance!

   by warningproject - 2008-05-31
 » whats this

ok you dont now wath you are doing
you dont respect users
i will never update to yours firms again
thats it
ho!! dax came again please....
i dont want this sheat any more

   by Bubbletune - 2008-06-01
 » Oh come on.

You lot make me angry. What gives you the right to doubt of a perfectly capable developer. What gives you the right to say it's all stolen.
Most of you idiots don't even understand what 'reverse engineering' is, it isn't running a tool and obtaining the source, no, it's weeks/months of hard work reading machine language and rewriting it in proper C code.
Next, even though 3.93 might've been slightly "easy" to update the patches for (but they still had to reverse the full custom firmware for it first, so it still was alot of work), 3.95 centrainly isn't.
All offsets changed, small parts of new security were added, all nids changed again, and just believe me when I say that they worked really hard on it.

Making a 4.00 CFW is not going to prove much more than 3.95, even though for you users it looks like some easy crap update, "us" developers know that internally alot has changed.
Please stop making those false judgements unless you really, and then I mean really know what you're talking about.
If you are so brilliant to say that it's "easy" to update the 3.90 custom firmware to 3.95, do it now, and share it with us, I'm 99%, no wait, 100% sure you can't.
Also, we don't care if you think it's useless, it atleast proves there are other developers then Dark_AleX capable of developing a custom firmware, which will come in handy when he might leave oneday.

3.90 M33-3 HAS A MINOR BUG!
-WHEN I TRY TO PLAY FLOW ON A PHAT PSP RUNNING CFW 3.90 M33-3 IT'L FREEZE. THE ONLY WAY IS TO HARD BOOT THE PSP BY TAKING OFF THE BATTERY. WHEN I UPGRADE TO 3.93 CFW W/ 1.50 KERNEL ADD-ON THE BUG HAS BEEN FIXED.. GO ON TRY IT FOR YOURSELVES!

-IM LOOKING FORWARD TO 3.95 GEN! JUST A FEW HOURS TILL ITS RELEASE!
