Gizmodo is reporting a new development on the Apple iPhone scene that is probably most useful for people who bricked their iPhones. According to a test they did, it seems firmware update 1.1.3 rewrites most, if not all, of the iPhone's firmware, restoring bricked phones to a usable state.
According to Gizmodo, they put their phone into recovery mode and then connected to iTunes to restore/upgrade the phone. After the phone got its upgrade, they tried to activate the phone using iTunes, but ran into some trouble.
They then did what any techie would probably try doing, and that's restarting the phone. Luckily, that seemed to do the trick. They were once again able to make calls and get a stable data connection on the phone.
Feel free to try their trick out on your bricked iPhone and see if you can get it working again.
