PS3 sales confirmations? - Image 1You may want to call your nearest electronics retailer to be sure, but it seems that some stores in the US have already begun selling PS3 units at the fabled US$ 499 price tag.

A day or so ago, news sites and blogs were getting conflicting words from retailers and Sony, with some retail moles saying that stores are already set up to sell cheaper PS3s, with Sony exec Ryoji Chubachi denying those rumors.

Well, PS3 Fanboy currently has additional updates on the matter, noting that some of their readers are informing them of the sales in progress. They've got a short list of people saying that retail outlets are already selling the PS3 for less, with folks in Kansas and California (among other places) saying that they've been able to nab a PS3 for US$ 499.

Perhaps Sony's waiting to make a big announcement about it, or perhaps it's all a big hoax. Truth be told, there probably isn't a better reaction than to have a delighted Sony fan find out that his local store is selling the PS3 at reduced prices. If you're planning on getting a unit, you guys may want to check your local shops. Just remember to ask nicely.

This isn't a price cut, Best Buy and Futureshop jacked up the prices of the PS3. If you go to any other game store, they were/are still selling for 659.99.

In Canada BB + FS raised the price of PS3 and Wii as well...now it's just the regular price here now....

Anyways, a $100 would help, but really they need to knock $200 off of it for most people....many regular joes think even 360 is too much...

   Re: Garrett Garcia - 2007-07-07
 » raaa

$100 is a lot to drop from the PS3's price.

I agree that at $400, PS3 would pummel the 360, but Sony can't afford it.

Over here in Australia, we pay $1000 AU for a PS3. That equals to $858 American. You guys in America don't know how lucky you are. We Aussies will not get a price cut because, that's how it is down here. Australia get overcharged and and it isn't fair. It's very easy to forget about the little people.

BUT! To me, I don't think the PS3 is overpriced. It's a Blu-Ray player and most powerfull next-gen console (And to all those idiots out there that think the PS3 isn't, it has been proven time and time again!)

The PS3 is a bargan for what it can do. Let's list some things that cost the same as the PS3.

1. Nvidia 8800GTX / 8800 Ultra.
2. Nokia N95.
3. Iphone.
4. Dell 2407WFP (24" widescreen monitor).

I don't know about you guys, but I don't mind the PS3 price. There are some people out there that complaing that $299 for the PS3 is to much...

When E3 comes and Sony finally shows off there Killer games coming out such as Lair and Warhaw + more before 2008, then people will stop talking sh-it about Sony. Most of the Sony bashing comes from American's media and why? Because Sony is an Japanese company. And we all know Americans think they are the sh-it. they don't want some foreign product beating thier loved Microsoft Xbox, which is made in China btw.

There are millions of PS2 owners out there that are waiting, waiting for somthing to convince them to get a next-gen console. And believe me, what Sony WILL show at E3 will persuade alot of people to buy a PS3. They will look past all the "S0ny Suxorz", "PS3 has failed", "Gaystation" etc...

Right now, I am a very happy PS3 owner. I've never played a Wii and only ever played the Xbox 360 at my mates brothers house. But I'm not bashing any other console, I'm just defending Sony and the PS3.

I'm sure Microsoft will show an awsome line up of games at E3 aswell. Such as Halo 3 and Bioshock. I frikn love Bioshock thank god it's coming to PC to though.

I bet on my mum's life that the Sony PS3 will turn out to be an amazing machine. You might not see it now, but it will I guarantee it.

More people want to know what Sony is going to show at E3 than everyone else;

It is a great time for all us gamers, don't forget that Crysis is coming soon for the PC and I also can't wait for that game! ^_^

BTW i wouldn't bet on your moms life on a console just a hint.

I don't forget you guys, i feel sorry that yuo have to pay more than the U.S(BTW im in the U.S. in the state of new york) But i heard the ps3 is doing great there. I just feel you guys buy it cause you want it. I defend you guys all the time. Come to neoseeker forums and talk about the ps3, im pretty sure you can convinced some idiots with facts.

Anyway, Yea the ps3 is getting bad press but it has nothing to do with japan systems, its just the people are idiots and think they know what the system should be priced at.

Also Our stuff is mainly made from china and japan so i think the U.S likes them. but hey nice chatting with you.

I was actually saving up to but the Aussie PS3, but somehow I ended up tripping to Japan, and decided to buy it there. 55,000%uFFE5 + around $550. I doubt it's ever gonna get that cheap down in AU any time soon. I'm fine with no backward compat since my current PS2 does it all fine. Sure the PS3 'upscales', but I find saving $450 a much better deal.

http://news.google.com/news?um=1&tab=wn&ie=utf8&oe=utf8&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-US&q=PS3%20Price%20Cut

Search carefully no price cuts i even, saw it on CNN News Ticker.. on the other hand MS had 1 Bilion$ Setback for the XBOX360 Ring of Death issues. MS Should have never hurried, so now its costing them lot of money.

   Re: wq (Unregistered) - 2007-07-07
 » Hmmm

"MS Should have never hurried, so now its costing them lot of money."

It has nothing to do with hurrying. If MS launched the 360 in say March 2006, they would have missed the important 2005 Christmas holiday sales. Besides, the hardware would have been the same anyway. These things happen, just like Sony's DRE problem on the PS2. And although it's unlikely, who's to say there isn't some problem waiting to show itself on the PS3 a year or so after launch.

The money itself is not THAT big an issue for a company like MS, sure it's a lot, but look at Sony with the exploding battery problem last year, costing them up to $400 million to recall the batteries. Again, these things happen.

As for price cuts, just because Sony denies a price cut doesn't mean it's not going to happen.

If you look at the wording, they say they have no plans at present, which is true at PRESENT, but at E3 they may announce the price cut many are hoping for.

» 1 billion for one division is a big deal.

If you actually follow econmics and businesses you would know that 1 billion is a big deal. I'm talking to the guy udner me, wq. Microsoft's entertainment division has yet to make money in their existence. They do have deep-pcokets no doubt, but shareholders have a voice, and a brute-force attack rarely works.

$1Billion might make an X360 price cut impossible in the near future...which could be relevant - in case PS3 will go down to $499 (or even less).

   Re: wq (Unregistered) - 2007-07-07
» Yawn, always the same arguement

"If you actually follow econmics and businesses you would know that 1 billion is a big deal"

And if you actually follow economics and businesses you would know that it's all relative. Stop being impressed by big numbers and look at the facts. Yes it's a lot, I didn't say it wasn't, but given the scale of what companies such as MS and Sony deal with, 1 billion and (nearly half a billion in Sony's case), is not make or break for the company or the division. It's not good, but it's not a disaster either.

" They do have deep-pcokets no doubt, but shareholders have a voice, and a brute-force attack rarely works."

I'd lost count of people talking about the influence of the shareholders last gen with the XBox, and what happened? Nothing! So please. I'm not saying shareholders don't have a voice, they do, but they are not the knee-jerk reactionaries like gamers on forums or reporters on websites. If they were, compaines like MS and Sony would never be where they are today!

Yes Microsoft shouldn't have rushed. And because they rushed out it forced Sony to rush causing them to ditch their plans to make their own GPU. Yes, Sony had plans to make their own graphics card but were forced to go to Nvidia.

Now what I find interesting is that, when the next-gen consoles (we are in next-gen now, but after this gen) what will Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo do?

a) Microsoft releases their new Xbox first again. I think that is a high possibility because it worked for the 360 in terms of sales, but as we see it now, being first can have some downsides. Like the 33% failure rates of the poorly built 360.

b) Sony releases their next gen Playstation (PS4?) first and tries to beat the others like the Xbox 360 done. But like the Xbox 360, starts of good then starts lacking the features of the other consoles. Maybe this time they will release the new console at an affordable price.

c) Nintendo... I have no idea what Nintendo would do. They might get into the expensive HI-DEF games and movies, or they can go with the cheap, happy fun kiddy games with some kind of glove to play? Who knows.

d) Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo wait for eachother to see what the other company does. Like the PS3. People say they stole the motion sensor idea in the controller from the Wii? Being last doesn't mean it's the worst, in fact it's better to be last than first so you can improve your product over the others.

e) There are just so many things going on right now that this generation on consoles will last longer. Instead of a 4-5? year console life cycle it becomes 5-6? years before anyone releases anything new?

I love console wars, somthing about big companys fighting for US THE GAMERS and trying to convince us that they are better than the rest. But who wins in the end? Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo? No, we do. What is better than seeing companys fighting and releasing amazing games for us?

I want to see a fearsome fight with these 3 companys, A FIGHT TO THE DEATH!

   Re: wq (Unregistered) - 2007-07-07
 » Actually

"And because they rushed out it forced Sony to rush causing them to ditch their plans to make their own GPU. Yes, Sony had plans to make their own graphics card but were forced to go to Nvidia."

Sony's plans had nothing to do with MS.

The original plan for the PS3 was to use at least two Cell processors in the console, where one would be used for graphics. However, during developement of the Cell processor, it soon became apparent that Cell would not be strong enough to compete with the power of modern GPUs. Therefore it was a this point that Sony had to give up on the idea of using only Cell and they approach nVidia for a graphics solution. As we know, nVidia offered a GPU based upon the G71 (Geforce 7800), which is called RSX in the PS3.

"I love console wars, somthing about big companys fighting for US THE GAMERS and trying to convince us that they are better than the rest. But who wins in the end? Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo? No, we do. What is better than seeing companys fighting and releasing amazing games for us?"

The PS3 (60GB version, EU doesn't have 20GB) is sold for €499 at Media Markt, if you just tell them that an other establishment in the Netherlands has a lower price than €600. Then they're forced to sell at €500 or less.

Many people just bought a ps3 at the price of $600 and already cutting the price is cheap. If they cut the price down already then there should be a $100 refund for those who have already bought one.

» Yes the Price Cut is true

I just went to the local Target store by my house and was thrilled to see the PS3 priced at $499. That is the 60gb PS3 not the 20gb PS3. Funny thing was, Target still had the 20gb PS3 sticker on the display at $499 yet there was none there.

This is not a joke. Go check it out at Target yourself. I havn't checked Walmart yet but I imagine it is on sale there too.

For those in doubt, I took a pic with my phone to prove its true.
