PSP - Image 1

Heads up, Sony PlayStation Portable homebrew fans - more info has just been released about the upcoming Custom Firmware 3.80 M33, direct from Mathieulh himself. No, it's not yet released, but there is a special bit of news that should make you eager for its arrival all the more - and it has something to do with the way it's going to update your PSP.

So, what's the new info? First off, an exact ETA of the firmware itself - that is, tomorrow. Apparently, a lot of people were expecting it to be released today, but due to an unexpected delay of sorts, it didn't happen.

The reason for this - and brace yourself - is that Dark AleX has made it so that this new firmware would update the same exact way that Sony's official firmwares do, via WiFi. That means that it's going be a hassle-free, no-messy-installation-needed update (of course, you have to access Network Update for it), and certainly a very welcome addition to the host of features the custom firmware brings.

It could also mean that from now on, all updates will be cumulative - that is, if you've been out of the loop for quite a while and suddenly upgrade to the latest firmware, you won't have to go through the long, hard slog of upgrading through the previous firmwares you've missed. Convenient, and definitely justifies the 24-hour delay.

More news about this upcoming treat from Dark AleX as it develops.

Torch- That depends. The update feature could be patching..or it could be an entire installation (like the official ones). If it was a patch, it would be the same as it is now, but if it was the full blown thing..

Well, something tells me nothing would happen anway. But you never know.

The same way thousands of companies have shut down servers hosting keygens and serial numbers: Send threatening letters to the ISP (DA's is Dedibox in France) letting them know that they have the bigger lawyers than the ISP.

Think...

i still have 3.40 oe

   Re: Wicked_Insider - 2008-01-11
 » Oh Wow...

...I stuck with 3.40 OE till cfw 3.71 but eventually
you find a need to upgrade like recent games for
example, they require higher fw versions.

» this couldnt get any better!

Yea so about a week ago i experienced a brick, not to happy about that. so then i contacted all my friends with custom firmware psp's and none would help me make a Jigkick battery so im was stuck buying 1 on Ebay. funny part is its supposed to arrive 2 morow same day as this expected release im nearly crappen my shorts i cant wait i might even skip classes 2 morow jjust to wait for the USPS truck to come
and this via internet updater is defiantly a good add on no hassle having to download installers and Eboots. not to mention its sounds to be noob friendly no offense to them.

Hope my pandora battery is well worth it!!!

One Question

Is It Illegal to alter a sony Firmware update???

i really havent taken the time to read the lil disclosure thing when u update

   by FreePlay - 2008-01-10
 » FYI

It is NOT an auto update.

It's an updater that uses Network Update.

Re: Rio S. (QJ. NET Staff) - 2008-01-10
 » ...

I think he meant auto-update in the sense that you don't have to download anything separately, you just directly update via Wi-Fi. But I added the Network Update thing just to be clear. :)

 » re: help please

1) No, just follow the instruction in the readme, I can't remember where you put the eboot for the update right now, sorry
2) I believe you can, here's the file..it might not work but I'm not sure.
dl.qj.net/Snes9xTYL-0.4.2-ME-for-PSP-Slim-PSP-Emulators/pg/12/fid/14889/catid/135
Just follow the readme and it should work..
3) For PS1 - eboot, you'll need popstation and clonecd. Here's a tutorial on youtube..

There is not, and never will be, 1.5 firmware on a slim. Why would you put ANYTHING in a game150 folder?

 » wooot

nice....but does it come with a kernel 1.5 for fat psp? well i hope so.

Re: Aces In The Palm - 2008-01-11
 » hmmm not sure

freeplay be a good one to ask as he regularly talks to both DAX and mathieulh and is always in the know.
i thought the NIDs thing meant no or next to no modifications needed for porting plug ins and such

actually not sure if the 1.5 kernel would be covered with this anyway since its not one you put into seplugins folder and enable through recovery. when i put 1.5 on 3.71m33 it actually flashed the files in

even if its not the case, becus25 shouldnt take long to port his 1.5 kernel across

and i would like to take this moment to apologize to becus25 for things that i have said about his coding ability when the IE firmwares were doing the rounds
people can be such idiots sometimes and i was

i'll still say they were not my thing but these 1.50 kernel are great.
so becus25 Dark Moon i'm truly sorry for being one of the jerks that hung crap on you

oh
i believe you should go back to becus25 or choose something different
ever since DAX everyone is dark something

Oh My Goodness! I've waited for so long for this 3.80 M33. Thanks 4 Dark Alex who created that firmware. More Power to QJ.net

   by ro0kie42 - 2008-01-10
 » what's so great about 3.80?

just curious. usually things aren't compatible with future updates (i'm on 3.71 slim). so i don't see a reason to update.

   Re: Binary - 2008-01-10
 » um features?

-New Radio Channel
-The higher the firmware the better chance to play UMD games that requires updates.

what you talking about compatible stuff? thats easy to fix again.

but u cant update to 3.80 M33 wit 3.71 can u? U gotta go through all the downgrading and pandora crap, right? or am I wrong... cuz i would be HAPPY if I was wrong.

or do u have 3.71 M33?

nice, looking forward to installing this.

dunno if its possible to integrate these in the cfw, but how about:
-standard ogg and flac support
-make/edit/delete m3u playlists
-integrated avi support
-flash7 support

that would make the PSP the unbeatable media player!

» I use VSH Reboot instead of NWU

The Network Update part is really a cool feature, however I have reflashed my PSP to replace NWU with the VSH Rebooter plugin. Surely I must still be able to upgrade somehow? I don't mind the "messy-installations" since they are already very simple.

   Re: JaXeRiR - 2008-01-11
 » Dude...

This means that when you have updated to 3.80 M33 you will be able to get FUTURE updates for it via Network Update. You won't be able to update to 3.80 M33 via Network Update...

Ohh, if some people get confused about this they might accidentally update to 3.80 official from 3.71 M33 in the hopes of getting 3.80 M33 via Network Update... This might get messy!
