Lara Croft - Image 1If you're infatuated with Tomb Raider heroine Lara Croft and you want her to be yours alone, you'd better be ready to shell out the big bucks because she doesn't come cheap. About GBP £ 300 (US$ 600 million) should do the trick, though.

Publisher SCi recently announced that it is open to being taken over by third parties, and by extension all its intellectual property including the popular Tomb Raider franchise which has thrilled gamers across three gaming generations.

Share prices of SCi jumped from 37.5p to 375.5p immediately after word hit the streets on the company's willingness to sell out. The most eligible suitors at this point are industry heavyweights Warner Bros., Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft.

Preliminary talks are now being held with interested parties but no details have leaked from the negotiations. What's certain, though, is that CEO Jane Cavanagh and property mogul Robert Tchenguiz will cash in on a very sweet deal.

The Tomb Raider franchise celebrated its 10th anniversary this year with the release of Tomb Raider: Anniversary, which is a remake of the PSX original on the Microsoft Xbox 360, PC, and Sony PlayStation Portable.

Wish I'd invested. That jump in the stock's price just made some people very, very rich.

Some error on QJ's part, I'm trying to find what the stocks were before the announcement, they were not at 37.5 and did not jump 1000%. According to some chart I found they were at 500-something in June

My guess would be Warner Bros because they have said they want to have there own studio that makes games. So if they buy them they would get some nice games to make. But if it is not them I hope it is Sony because right now all there games suck Lair and Heavenly Sword were said to be good games but instead turn out bad. So I think if Sony was to buy them this would bring some good news which they need baddly.

 » No EA

I sincerely hope Ubisoft gets it. They seem to actually care about making good games (well, let's forget that POP-Revelations PSP port). Most likely evil EA will get it because they have more money.

» Ubisoft would be the best thing to happen to t he Tomb Raider Series

If EA gets their hands on it then it's all over, the game will never be worth spit for as long as they own it. They will make it as cheaply as possible so that they can put it out as soon as possible on as many consoles as possible. That's their M.O Ubisoft on the other hand will not cut corners and will make the best game possible.
