Super Mario Galaxy gets BAFTA Best Game award - Image 1
Eat'a this!

Mario games have always been popular in the UK. Case in point: Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games stayed on top of the UK Charts for more than three months after its launch, being bumped off only occasionally by a big game release. Mario Kart Wii was also an overwhelming success in the region.

Super Mario Galaxy evidences Mario's popularity by beating out the likes of Fallout 3, Fable II, and even GTA IV for BAFTA's Best Game Award. The GAME Award this year goes to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, as voted on by 60,000 gamers.

Dead Space won two awards for Best Use of Audio and Original Score. LittleBigPlanet won the the award for Artistic Achievement, and the Technical Achievement award goes to Spore. One notable winner of this year's BAFTA video game awards is Steven Spielberg, whose Boom Blox won the award in the Casual genre. Here are the other winners:
  • Casual: Boom Blox
  • Strategy: Sid Meier's Civilization
  • Sport: Race Driver: Grid
  • Multiplayer: Left 4 Dead
  • Action and Adventure: Fable II
  • Handheld: Professor Layton and the Curious Village
  • Best Game: Super Mario Galaxy
