The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) have announced the 13 award categories for the annual British Academy Video Games Awards. The organization has also opened nominations and released the finalized dates for the awarding. The format for this year is a bit different and more streamlined with the Children’s Game category being reassigned to the BAFTA Children’s Awards

Eligibility for the award includes any game that has been or will be released in the UK between 6 October 2006 and 31 December 2007. The categories are pretty broad and include Action and Adventure, Sports, Innovation, Best Original Score and Multiplayer.

he process a game has to go through to win an award is rather stringent, starting with all entries being grouped into their respective categories and voted on by both the industry and BAFTA members.

The games which get the highest scores will be sent over to a jury which will be headed by a member of the BAFTA video games committee. From there, the jury will go over the entries and decide the winners. The nominees will be announced on September 25 with the winners being declared on October 23 at The British Academy Video Games Awards at Battersea Evolution, in London.
