British MPs are apparently not impressed with Activision's Modern Warfare 2 (PC, PS3 and Xbox 360). Keith Vaz, noted anti-game politician, has made comments about the game to the Daily Mail, saying he is "absolutely shocked" at the game's violence.

Said Vaz, "I am absolutely shocked by the level of violence in this game and am particularly concerned about how realistic the game itself looks." That last bit right there about the game looking realistic is actually a compliment to the game, I don't think he realized.

Shock and awe

But it's not all bad for video games in UK. They found a champ in the form of West Bromwich East Labour MP Tom Watson, who took to Facebook and set up a group called Gamer's Voice. This group is billed as "unashamedly pro-video games". In order to join, you have to answer the question: "Are you sick of UK newspapers and (my fellow) politicians beating up on gaming? So am I. The truth is, UK gamers need their own pressure group. I want to help you start one up. So war, 478 people have signed up for the group.

As to Vaz's statements, he retorts:

Everything that comes out of Parliament in relation to video games is relentlessly negative. There are thousands of people employed in this industry, there are 26 million people playing games. We should have a much more balanced view of the industry, indeed we should be supporting them through difficult times.

He did agree, however, that Modern Warfare 2 is "deeply repulsive", and that personally, he won't be playing it. He reiterates however, that he believes in proper classification. As long as these safety measures are properly put up and implemented, then there shouldn't be a problem with the game.

 » Foolishness

It's a representation of war, for god's sake.

If MPs are against this game because it's violent, what do they think the troops are doing overseas?

Whether you're for or against the troops being in Iraq + Afghanistan, the MPs need to pull them out before they start complaining about a war game being violent.

Keith Vaz, you sir... are a fool.

"when they hear the retarded American's racism."

This can be construed as racism coming from you...

Most of America's racism is now in the younger generation, just because they think it makes themselves look cool to hate.

I myself just hate everybody equally no matter what colour/race you are.

   Re: pookiepoo - 2009-11-10

...but what I said was not a general statement about Americans as a whole it was a statement about racist Americans.

Actually your comment could be taken as an insult to mentally deficient Americans. "...Retarded American's..."

» So which American race you saying is racist?

My neighbors to the left of me are middle east muslim decent, to the right of me is Mexican decent, in front of me is native American european decent and behind me are asian decent. We are all pretty much mutts here in the United States so we would be pretty much hating ourselves if we were racist.

Is probably the most retarded person on earth. He comes from my home town as well! Mr Vaz should go and watch a film such as Saw and then he can comment on how 'deeply repulsive' things are

Re: Master Chef - 9 days ago
 » haha too true

IDK about Saw, Saw is way too corny to be repulsive to me, but there are definitely way more movies that cross the line than games. I'd say the only game that crosses the line for me is Manhunt 2, that game just goes too far. Still, I don't see too many politicians complaining about movies

 » holla

hey, legalizing "weed" would help out the economy a bunch. plus, compare cannabis related accidents to alcohol related accidents and they don't even compare, alcohol outweighs cannabis by the thousands!! yeah, if alcohol is legal, then marijuana should be too.

Re: xxCARLOSxx - 9 days ago
 » ^

That's only because weed IS illegal... a lot more people drink compared to people that smoke pot. i bet more people probably die from smoking cigarettes than alcohol.

oh btw http://drugwarfacts.org/cms/?q+node/30

so STFU get your facts u dumb pothead

Re: SonnySoul - 9 days ago
 » @ Valefour

Ever heard the phrase "Two wrongs don't make a right"?

You say alcohol causes more accidents than cannabis, and this is your argument for legalising the drug? This would make a better argument for banning alcohol.

Pity you have to intoxicate yourself to have a good time. Sort your life out.

   Re: Jeffyboy582 - 9 days ago
 » Reply

I'm not agreeing with this dumb kid but really why is it so hard for everyone to keep their noses out of everyone elses business. If someone wants to smoke pot it should be their decision and they should be capable of dealing with the consequences, and by consequences I don't mean getting busted for having a gram of weed on you. Some of the comments in this post seem to imply that smoking marijuana instantly makes you an unproductive member of society and that is dead wrong. Being lazy and useless like this kid is what makes him an unproductive member of society; the pot really just acts as a catalyst. I personally know many productive and contributing members of society that smoke weed to help cut off the edge. So just because YOU get lazy and useless when you smoke doesn't mean that its going to effect everyone else the same way, believing that would just be ignorant.

People acted the same way when television first came out and now it's widely excepted. Once these old political fogies die, the newer generation will throw out the old ways and more people will stop being afraid of reality. Videogames are here to stay unless dictators take over once again.

How desperate the American men are to attract women even if they are fat unattractive gamer girls. There's a ton of American men who'd have sex with anything, its disgusting. I don't like fat chicks.

   Re: Navani - 2009-11-10

and I'm sure those fat chicks don't like you either, you 60 year-old perv who probably lives in your mommy's basement with a few cats and a tv dinner on your lap.

   Re: FABLE - 2009-11-10

Agreed. They are disgusting. The fact that dozens and dozens of those American men went as far as having sex with a creature as filthy and repulsive as your mother is truly unconscionable.

I'm truly ashamed that I was one of those men. I'll never forgive myself. It's a good thing I don't believe in hell or else I would have to worry about eternal suffering for beastiality.

They do know that the game was based on the British Special Forces..... They are basically sponsoring you showing how army life is. And how hard it is.

Games ARE for ENJOYMENT
They HELP with BOREDOM
EVERYTHING done in the game *HAS* CONSEQUENCES!

This deters people from commiting the real goddamn crime. If i played GTA IV in the morning, it doesn't mean that i'm gonna drive on the sidewalk and run people over regardless. Because ill always know that people in blue suits or black suits will come after me.

Another thing MW2 is based on the ARMY meaning you have to sign up then learn the consequences and train.

*SPOILER WARNING*

Yes we know the bad guy was the supposed good guy and yes he was british. It doesn't mean that were going to become a high ranking senior officer then commit treason.
