Run virus scans on your PCs to detect for possible Trojan horses - Image 1Yup, World of Warcraft account theft is still alive and well these days. The latest modus operandi apparently involves the use of virus-infected FRAPS to steal player's account information in Blizzard's MMORPG.

WoW Insider reportedly traced the Trojan to Trojan.Crypt.FKM.Gen. It was originally believed that FRAPS had a modified version of SpyLocked in it,  which then installed the said Trojan into Microsoft Net Meeting. This supposedly started silently upon rebooting WIndows, whereupon it key logged passwords when players tried to log into the game. The WoW Insider virus scan readout shows this:

C:Frapsfraps.exe

[DETECTION] Contains detection pattern of the Phish-File/Email PHISH/FraudTool.SpyLocked.J

C:Program FilesNetMeetingmstinit.exe

Where [DETECTION] Is the Trojan horse TR/Crypt.FKM.Gen

WoW Insider also believed that the problematic FRAPS was downloaded from the official site. Beepa, maker of FRAPS, has assured users that the downloads on fraps.com are fine.
Still, WoW insider recommends that Blizzard's customers deal with this in two ways:
  1. Change your passwords immediately
  2. Avoid signing in to World of Warcraft until you've run a complete virus scan on your PC.
Remember, security is paramount, so take the necessary precautions.
