Paladins are mostly known for their area of effect (AoE) buffs, most of which are auras. Mostly since they are instant cast and affects party members to about 30 yards, it's a fairly important skill. Azriul, a paladin over at the WoW Europe forums noticed that Cyclone can strip him of his aura, and wondered if it was intended or a bug. Blizzard poster Ommra replied that it was actually intended.

It seems to have been a bit of a surprise for some paladins upon discovering that auras can actually be countered. They can be canceled or removed by Cyclone (a Druid spell) and Banish (a Warlock spell). Cyclone is a spell where the target gets whirled around for a few seconds with stun effects (how would you feel after taking a ride on a cyclone?). Banish on the other hand is a crowd control spell that renders something or in this case, somebody immobile.

These aura counters also work for other AoE auras. The universe of the World of Warcraft apparently also likes balance. Some players like it that the devs thought of a counter for (nearly) everything while some aren't. Can't please everybody.
