Jason McMaster has a report up over at GigaGamez saying that people are trading in their Sony PS3's for Nintendo Wiis. Even they were a bit skeptical at first when Tony Conrad, CEO and Founder of Sphere first pointed it out to them, but they started to believe the claim a bit when they did a little research through craigslist.org.

They decided to look up some of the hottest cities on craiglist: Austin, New York, and San Francisco. In Austin six people wanted to trade in their PS3s. In New York 18 people wanted to trade-in their big black box. In San Francisco, 48 different people want to trade in their PS3s for a Wii. This despite the price difference between the two.

McMaster spends some time speculating why people are willing to trade in at a loss. He wonders whether or not this has to do with with the fact that while most of the people who camped out for a Nintendo Wii did so for maybe four hours, PS3 lines were plagued with greedy eBayers and shootings.

McMaster has a few other theories but the scenario that he paints that we think is most reasonable is the eBay scenario. Here's his words:

Another scenario could be that they’re trading the PS3s, which are dropping in price on eBay, for the Wii to try and flip it right before the holidays. This theory is given credit by a few traders looking for two Wiis for a 60 GB PS3. That would definitely be a profit gain situation.

Can't get a PS3 and you really want one? Buy two Wiis. Can't get a Wii but you managed to snag a big black box through eBay? Trade it in and get two. To each his own.

Whatever floats people's boats. Personally, I just found out earlier this night that two of my friends just turned in their Wii's for PS3's. One of them when asked why he is turning in his Wii made up some excuse while the other was straight out "I want a ps3".

A group of people trading in their PS3's for Wiis is just reflecting their preference. I bet theres just as much going the other way.

Does anyone else think that, when consumer could finally afford PS3, Microsoft already or will announce their new 3rd generation console….

$ony's the one that had better start on their new console. Yeah it just came out, but more and more it's looking like a 2006 Sega Saturn. Better start work on the Dreamcast so you can be spanked again by the 360.

 » Why the debate?

umm...how does this prove their *****s? your statement is entirely unfounded and nonsensical. I have an xbox 360 and happen to think the ps3 is too similar to it, so i will not buy it, among other reasons. The ps3 has a lot of games already out for xbox as well, plus wii has the "excercise" factor going for it. I'm a sony fan. Well, more a fan of their consoles than them as a company, but I still would prefer a wii for the fact that it's unique, engaging and entirely backwards compatible. the only thing keeping the price so high on ps3 is the blu-ray technology, which is wasted, seeing how the graphics are similar to the xbox 360. The only possible explanation i could think of is that ps3 just uses less compression, or perhaps doesn't fill most of that disc. I've heard quite a lot of things are wrong with the system, but i mean so there were with the 360. They are all good, but the wii stands out for what it is. Plus the accessories are insanely cheap by comparison! Even looking at the nintendo DS, which I also own. Though I ALSO own a PSP, which I've all modded out and can play the things I always dreamed of taking on the road. That's just my 2 cents...and oh yeah..some of those ps3 commercials are either creepy, or way too subtle. I'm buying a wii soon!

hoping to make a few grand on EBAY got shafted by Sony's weekly shipments, so they gotta get rid of them somehow.

All Zelda fans e-mail Nintendo and ask them to re-release The legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess with Voice Work.

 » I tryed both

and I bought zelda on my GC instead of buying a wii for it... the other wii games are for kids or fan of puzzle/music games.

The ps3 is looking like a real console, it's like an updated PSP for the big screen with a lot of power in it. And I love the games we'll see on the ps3 :D ( bladestorm, motorstorm till march, MGS4 in june, the final fantasy games, etc ).

So I'll buy a ps3 ( with a 3 year warranty from bestbuy ).

Oh, and I also bought an xbox360, but I disliked it and returned it to bestbuy after a week.

If you returned the XBOX because you didn't like it you're going to be very disappointed when you try out the PS3. Best buy doesn't usually take returns so you could be lying too. If you're getting the best buy 3 year extended warranty, I wouldn't expect you to be too bright. What's that cost, half the cost of a new console?

» A jack of all trades is a master of none....

If you want a linux box, get a PC, if you want a video game console, get a 360 or Wii.....if you want an overpriced box that tries to do everything, and does none of it well....get a PS3....

 » maybe so

He does have a point most multilple use electronics aout there are more expensive and perform worse than stand alone devices.

However i think it is not the case with the ps3, because its blu-ray quality is very good from what ive heard, and its multimedia features are pretty solid ,but not perfect.

right now what the PS3 really needs is some good games.

I guess i'm the only one who enjoys my ps3 over my wii? I even gave my only wiimote as a christmas present to my friend because he wanted to play wii sports with his brother who was home for the holidays and he couldn't find one in the storess. I don't even have a wiimote because I feel the wii isnt even worth playing. I play my ps3 every day (Ridge Racer 7, GT HD demo and Resistance.) I don't see why anyone would trade in a ps3 for a wii unless it was for profits. I can understand that there are few blockbuster games for the ps3(if any), but are people really that stupid to trade in something with amazing future potential for something that has just thrown its biggest killer app out at the start?(Twilight Princess). Don't even start with Mario and Smash garbage. Both are hits but don't have as big a install base as zelda. Anyway, things look bad for the ps3 right now but as long as Sony gives us new games, its over for everyone else.
