Looks like we can expect a plethora of new applications and games for the iPhone and iPod Touch soon, as Apple just announced that over 100,000 developers have downloaded the beta iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK) which helps third-party contributors in creating apps for Apple's handheld platforms.

"Developer reaction to the iPhone SDK has been incredible with more than 100,000 downloads in the first four days,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing through press wire. He noted that the SDK's launch video on Apple's website has reached over one million hits, proving how many developers want their hands in the cookie jar.

Apple explained that its iPhone and iPod Touch are profitable platforms where devs gain 70% of revenue their software. AOL, Electronic Arts, Epocrates, salesforce.com and Sega were cited as developers that "already demonstrated amazing applications using the SDK."

Not long ago, Sega revealed its Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone utilizing the gizmo's accelerometer feature. Electronic Arts will also launch Spore on the handheld, marking a promising start for Apple game software. We're all eyes on the scene to keep you informed, so watch this space for updates!
