Another patent for PSP phone surfaces, indicates use of touchscreen display - Image 1As you all know, rumors about the existence of a PSP Phone has been going on for a while now. One of the main reasons that this persists are the new pieces of evidence popping up every now and then.

For instance, take this newly-discovered patent filed by Sony Ericsson Mobile back in 2006 which recently surfaced on the internet.

The patent itself is titled "Orientation based multiple mode mechanically vibrated touchscreen display“ and details a device with a full touchscreen that could emulate the setup of the PlayStation Portable.

Aside from that, the device being patented also comes with a tactile feedback response that  "provides a greater user experience as well as a truer sense that the input was indeed received by the device".

As of now, no Sony division has yet to comment on this patent. If you want to know more details regarding this, you can refer to the source link below as it will take you to the official U.S. Patent Application page for the device mentioned above.

Also, don't forget to keep checking back here at QJ.NET as we promise to update you as soon as something comes up.

 » Ditto!

Sony hit the nail right on the head with vibrating touchscreen. Seriously, typing on the iphone feels so weird since it doesn't give me the feedback i normally do when using a blackberry (or any) phone. Great move Sony!

It's going to need to be better than an iPhone for me to even look at this.

And for that it's going to need full OSX compatibility, not require Sonic-Stage or any cripling applications for sync/data transfer. It'll need a full blown music shop, iTunes DRM and sync. iPlayer support and push email/contacts/calendar.

You can get all that now. Just tether your cell phone to your computer. Plus, you know Sony won't use iTunes, so quite whining.

why does everyone like iTunes so much... how hard is it to download a song and put it on a device? I bet you use AOL too...

Wow some angry people here.

I prefer to own my music/videos legally. Yes I know that puts me in a minority here.
And what? So it's easy to carry a laptop anywhere you go (I hike) AND a phone, or I could just do it all... on my phone.

AOL? Nobody uses AOL. I'm on BT...

iTunes hardly sucks. It's the 2nd largest music retailer in the US (though I'm not there). Evidently it must suck.

iPhone is the best gadget I've ever had, reviewed and many of my peers (people who can afford to buy stuff and not pirate everything) agree.

iTunes isn't the only way to obtain music and videos legally. In fact, there's a great number of other services and methods to obtain music, many of which (Almost all) are not DRM-locked to your singular computer like iTunes is. Most of them will let you download your music, save it to a location of your choice, and then once you reformat your computer, it's already there. Unlike iTunes, which will either force you to rebuy/redownload something you already have, or force you to burn it to CD before you can turn around and encode it back to your PC to put it on a device of your choice.

Why would they create an 'iPhone-like' device with OSX compatibility, iTunes DRM and Synch, iPlayer and other Apple-branded/locked/proprietary garbage when it's Sony with their /own/ proprietary products? That's like getting upset at Honda because they won't put a Hemi and racing-tuned suspension like the Dodge Charger.

The itunes Store is the 2nd biggest retailer perhaps, but that doesn't make iTunes the Software any less crappy.

Remember, this is a PSP phone. Not an iPhone wannabe (who btw is TRYING to become a PSP phone by having games on it).

lolol. You're not serious are you? The iPhone is trying to become a PSP?

If anything the raging success of the iPhone it's trying to copy the DS or GBA. Especially with the touchscreen abilities.

iTunes software crappy? Why? I've never had a single problem with it. Never a crash, space+pause (unlike Media Player where space+whatever button the indicator is over). Smart playlists and quick media access. And coverflow (why are so many PSP homebrew people trying to emulate that?).

» The DS is horrible with the touch screen.

I mean I had an old DS phat and the screen wasnt that responsive, then I got the Zelda gold DS lite but still the touch screen on that was pretty bad aswell, when playing games.

Anyway DS is NOT the first handheld to have a touch screen, the Tapwave Zodiac was the first handheld with a touch screen and it came out long before the DS came out, too bad the company went into bankruptcy cause its a great cheap PDA/ multi media/ emulation machine.

I mean you could emulate NES system and all of the other systems, I liked the design better than the DS.

By the way DS is nothing like the IPHONE except for touch screen but even in that department, Tapwave was the first one to put a touch screen into a handheld not Nintendo.

DS has no multi media stuff like the PSP/IPHONE has AKA MP3, movies, better specs and so on but you can get multi media stuff on the DS but it costs money, which didnt cost anything on the PSP.

PSP has a camera/GPS/Skype all in japan even though there all accessories, they fit the PSP, while DS only has touch screen games, nothing more, nothing less, its just a regular Nintendo handheld, nothing revolutionary about it.

Oh don't even say TOUCH SCREEN IS REVOLUTIONARY! Theres been touch screen in a handheld named Tapwave Zodiac.

DS doesnt have anything the PSP has unless you buy an accessory to play multi media stuff on it, which the DS was not made to do, now the PSP was made to be a multi media/ handheld device all in one.
