Sony Should 'Heavily Consider' PS3 Price Cut - EEDAR - Image 1

Sony's pretty confident that they don't need a price cut at all, even though Microsoft slashed down the Xbox 360's Arcade model below even the Wii's pricetag. Analyst Jesse Divnich of EEDAR (once again) warns that Sony should reconsider its stance, or it will land on last place again this holiday season.

While Sony prides itself in having the "broadest and deepest software lineup in the industry" (according to Sony), Divnich believes that it still won't be able to match up to Xbox 360 exclusives such as Gears of War 2 and Fable 2.

Even the Wii may have cause to worry as well. Although Divnich doesn't believe that the Xbox 360's price cut can significantly damage Wii sales for the holiday season, it may still pull it down. With Wii shortages still plaguing stores, it won't be surprising if the Xbox 360 can actually give the Wii a blackeye in sales.

The Truth Hurts.

MS treats everything it touches like software. Roll out a half complete product with bugs and fix it with software patches.

Well, MS... hardware isn't like software, it cannot be patched. It has to be worked on physically!

i don't know about you, but if i bought a 360 at launch for more or less 500, just to find out 3 years later the price is now less than half........ id be pretty pissed.

The premium was 399 in 2005 and now it's 299 three years later. Not quite less than half bro.

i thought it was dropping to 199 oops my bad.
my question is still valid though why would people want something that decreases in value?

There's going to be a reason for it. Microsoft is rich, but not that rich. Ok, maybe that rich, but not that stupid. I have a feeling they have the xbox* in storage..

   Re: logicbomb.de - 2008-09-09
 » decreasing value

Well Death,

That's just how the market operates, any consumer electronic device is going be sold cheaper after few years go by.

My colleague at work just sold me his VAIO laptop (core2@1.6) for just under 600, but it was more like 1,300 brand new off the shelf when it was released last year.

Computer and components especially see price reductions after each year.

I totally understand how you feel shelling out hundreds of dollars for a system only to find out that later on its much cheaper.

I dont give a crap about XBL since you have to freaking PAY TO PLAY ONLINE!

   Re: Echo307 - 2008-09-09

Yeah but it's a great service... I mean, I have both the PS3 and X-Box 360, and while it's great that the PSN is free, it can't even begin to try and keep up with X-Box Live right now.. It's just a much better service, and it only costs $5 a month. Look at all those clowns that play WoW for $15 a month... and that's just for ONE game.

   Re: wilmheath - 2008-09-09
 » uhh

Have you used both services? I'm sorry but the psn is nowhere close to xbl yet. Maybe once home is out but you can't count something that isn't out yet.

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

"They ALL say it."

Yet ANOTHER lie from the douche bag himself.

Wrong, moron! Usually a company will respond by lowering prices themselves as well as state WHY. However in this case, Sony is not lowering prices and claiming they are not worried.

Do you "get it" yet?

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

You should have stayed away. You obviously didn't "smarten up" while you where gone. Everyone can still see through your BS and easily SLAM you down.

 » oh boy

the only reason why M$ cut off the price of the 360 it's because it's poorly made with cheap parts ... they no the end is near. I have all 3 consoles and even the Wii is better made vs the 360. I bought many add ons on the 360 .. same add ons already included in the PS3 at the end my 360 cost me way more vs my PS3.

The M$ fanboys used to have the excuse of having more games vs the PS3 .... but i don't think this argument still worth something today because there games are getting old at this time and not so many great titles to come except gears 2 , fable 2.

 » either way

Either way they will be higher.

I will be enjoying littlebigplanet here in 11 more day! Just wish those stupid controllers weren't so darn expensive.

   Re: Silver-Tiger - 2008-09-09
 » WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!

sorry wilmheath , but I disagree with you completely.
Firstly, who always said: "We hav moar games, our consolz iz better!" right, that were the X360 trolls.
PS3 owners always said quality is better than a massive game lineup. Pretty interesting Spin now, don't you think? I'm not denying that Fable 2 and Gears will be great games, but let's be real: The PS3 just has the better lineup to look forward to.
Second, PSN vs. XBL:
You are saying that "the psn is nowhere close to xbl yet". I disagree. Really, I played both services( PSN at home and XBL at my friend's house). I played GTA online on both services, Resistance on PSN and Halo 3 on XBL. You know what?
I noticed NO difference. AT ALL. Both services are great. both offer online gaming at a very high level. I had no lags on both and I played on busy times when most players are online. Both offer great downloads whether you download games, movies or addons.( While I have to say that XBL has some more and some better games, but that's just a minimal point.)
Really guys, the fight between PSN and XBL is getting old. But I can't stand it when people say that XBL is SO MUCH BETTER.
Both services are great, if you pay or not. And 5$ a month is a steal. And it's completely worth the penny.
And Third: Jesse Divnich is obviously a X360 fanboy. Look at all the "predictions" he made. He never said anything good about the PS3 and he always praises the Xbox 360. Not only that his predictions are mostly wrong, he's also subjective. This douchebag should be fired.

   Re: Echo307 - 2008-09-09
 » I can't believe it...

@Silver-Tiger

Ok, your fight for the PSN doesn't make much sense, and the fact that you think it's just as good as XBL shows that you have played very little of XBL.

Sure, the PSN offers a lag free experience most of the time, but it's not the PSN that's offering that, it's the servers the game is hosted on. For instance, take Resistance... Resistance multiplayer is not hosted by the PSN, it's hosted by insomniacs' servers. You are correct that most games offer a lag free service, but it's not the PSN that does that.

As for the whole PSN vs XBL battle, I must first repeat that I own both consoles and play both pretty much equally; but XBL offers tons of things that the PSN does not have: Audio messages, private chat lines(up to 4 that can easily be swapped back and forth between each other and the game channel), cross game invites, a TON more arcade game content(although I do understand that quality over quantity arguement), roughly 65% more developer and producer support, a video service that is currently about 5X the size of the PSN video service, and the future Netflix streaming option that will bring 10,000 titles in at once........

Also I must stress that I do think the PSN will one day cach up, and I do think the PS3 will be the more dominant console at the end of this race, but as of NOW X-Box Live is lightyears ahead of the Playstation Network, and even most of the Sony fanboys I know will admit to that.

   Re: wilmheath - 2008-09-10
 » re:silver

How about this... Borrow your friends 360 for a week and really use xbl and download some movies, demo's and a few xbl arcade games. Try chatting with your buddies etc. Everything is very streamlined and way easier than the psn. Before I didn't have a ps3 so I couldn't really give an honest opinion of which was better but now that I've had one for a few weeks I've realized how much better xbl is than psn.

I do like it that the psn gives you more freedom but at the same time it's cluttered and confusing.

As for the quality comment.. You all were using that argument for horrible games that were not even quality. Like resistance freakin blows. I've been playing it and i'm more than halfway through and I keep waiting for it to get fun. If it was released on the pc it would of gotten a 7 rating max. The graphics suck and the AI is horrible. The gun where you tag the bad guy and shoot is about the only cool thing about the game.

   Re: ISOHaven - 2008-09-10
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

More clueless fanboys!

"Sure, the PSN offers a lag free experience most of the time, but it's not the PSN that's offering that, it's the servers the game is hosted on."

You're not a network administrator, are you? PSN stands for PlayStation Netowork. Any machine, computer, server on the NETWORK is apart of the NETWORK. So YES, it's PSN that is offering the experience. Regardless if the server is owned by Sony or not.

"and really use xbl and download some movies, demo's and a few xbl arcade games. Try chatting with your buddies etc. Everything is very streamlined and way easier than the psn."

That's certainly your opinion. I can do all the same stuff with PSN and there is nothing hard about it. So lets assume your REAL argument is that XBL is EASIER then EASY...... your point is meaningless. You PAY for easier then easy. I'd rather take EASY for FREE.

I used to be like you until I got both systems. Honestly my high end pc is still my favorite gaming choice followed by my xbox and then my ps3. I am however highly looking forward to littlebigplanet and plan on getting 2 more controllers so I can game with 4 buddies.

I'm going to enjoy this one...

Ok, so I'm not a network admin, but I do have a fair amount of experience with networking in both residential and business atmospheres, and your comment about the PSN and lag is absolutely laughable. Let me put it in a far more dumbed down version of text that might actually sink in to that hard head of yours:

No, you are wrong, the PSN has NOTHING to do with lag in a game, and the PSN does not host games. It's the game developers servers that do it, or an individual person depending on the game. The Playstation Network hosts your account info, and your friends list, and your messages... it has nothing to do with the games you play. Seriously, think about this. When you play a game on-line on PC, do you have to sign in to some third-party network before you can play? No. Why? Because via the game's content, you can link directly to the games servers, just as you do when playing a game on the PS3. The only thing the PSN does for you when playing on-line is serve as an access point for personal info. Other than that, the games content stream goes straight from the game's servers to your PS3. On top of that, there are even some games(Resistance used to be one of them) they don't even use the PSN as an access point, it really does go straight from the servers to your PS3, without even touching the PSN(one of the reasons the friends list on your XMB did not cross over in to Resistance). If it was not for the friends list, messages and account info, there wouldn't even be a need for the PSN servers.

"I can do all the same stuff with PSN and there is nothing hard about it." Yeah, right... Did you not read my last post? So on the PSN, I want you to show me the private chat lines that can be accessed cross game. I want you to show me the multiple chat lines that can be swapped back and forth with the touch of a button. I want you to show me cross-game invites that does not require the use of a text message. I want you to show me in game music used in game via the XMB. Show me where the audio messages, and all the extra developer support is... while you're at it, show me where the function is that allows you to send your own pics taken with your own camera without the use of a seperate program called "eye create." If you don't use the functions, fine. If you don't want them on the PSN, fine... but don't sit there and try and say that the two services are equal when offers not only all the things I listed above, but a 3X larger audience of gamers to play with...

The fact that you argued all that to begin with shows that you are in fact the biggest fanboy here.

The other guy above that tried to argue the same point you are, realized he had been beaten after my last post and didn't respond, so please save some face and do the same.

   Re: ISOHaven - 2008-09-11
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

"and your comment about the PSN and lag is absolutely laughable."
Really? Because I never mentioned LAG. So I guess we're all laughing at you now! HAHAHA!!!!

"No, you are wrong, the PSN has NOTHING to do with lag in a game"
Again? WTF are you reading? Anyway, check it out HIGH SPEED. I'm Game Company A. I host a server that is hosting a PS3 game. What software do you THINK is on my server? It's ALL tied into the same experience. PSN equals PSN, I don't care who's running the "hardware." PSN is comprised of X software. X is the experience.

"and the PSN does not host games. It's the game developers servers that do it"
That's what I said. Or did I not "dumb it down" enough for you? HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Also I said SONY hosts servers and YES they do. You need to learn the difference between PSN and SONY. So the next time you want to respond to one of my comments, actually UNDERSTAND what is being said to you before you respond.

"The Playstation Network hosts your account info, and your friends list, and your messages"
It does much then that!

"it has nothing to do with the games you play"
More then you seem to know!

"Seriously, think about this. When you play a game on-line on PC, do you have to sign in to some third-party network before you can play?"
That has nothing to do with this. But I DO utilize the same SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE.

"......"
I jumped over the rest of that babble.

"I can do all the same stuff with PSN and there is nothing hard about it."
"Yeah, right... Did you not read my last post? So on the PSN, I want you to show me....."
It can do all the same stuff that was MENTIONED. Gees man, get your head out of your rear end.

As for the items you listed....that's what your paying for! Sounds like a rip of to me! As for your rip on the camera, WTH does that matter? Do you have any hairs left after splitting them all?

Getting back to what actually matters. Both units are EASY to use. Yes, the 360 does a little more but clearly (those who aren't fanboy idiots) people are sick of paying for online when online is FREE for other consoles. Take all the features the 360 does that the PS3 doesn't. You PAY for that. Enjoy your PAID texting! HAHAHA!!!!

"but don't sit there and try and say that the two services are equal when offers not only all the things I listed above, but a 3X larger audience of gamers to play with... "
As I already mentioned, I DIDN'T. I discussed what was actually mentioned and the two are EQUAL on that ground.

"The fact that you argued all that to begin with shows that you are in fact the biggest fanboy here."
HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! You're an idiot. Spend more time on this forum and you see something very interesting.

1. People call me a PC fanboy.
2. People call me a Wii fanboy.
3. People call me a PS3 fanboy.
4. People call me a 360 fanboy.

That should tell you something:

A. You and them are full of sh1t.
B. I'm unbiased and can always see the good and the bad in just about everything.

"The other guy above that tried to argue the same point you are, realized he had been beaten after my last post and didn't respond, so please save some face and do the same."

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! In your dreams. I believe I pretty much put your BS in place. Especially since I had to explain to you what was actually said. Now take your FAKE network experience and shove it up where you head is. HILARIOUS!!!

   Re: Echo307 - 2008-09-11
 » Ok, fine

Ok ISOhaven, you win... anyone that would spend that much time dodging what I was actually saying and twisting what I say around(and others as it seems you're pretty hated in these forums) isn't really worth my time... you win, but just know that people like you actually turn people away from playing the same systems you do...

Honestly, I can't believe that another fanboy actually sucked me in to another pointless arguement... never again, although I've said that before.
