AhMan to return: will release iR Shell for 5.00 M33 - Image 1Here's something for those who have been missing AhMan's iR Shell after updating to Dark AleX's latest CFW update.

According to the man AhMan himself, he'll be releasing an update that will be compatible with CFW 5.00 M33. He says that he will be releasing the update as soon as irshell.org is back online:

Just to let you know I’ll be releasing another iR Shell public release for 5.00M33. It will have all the SE features, including infrared remote learning. Currently, irshell.org is being re-designed and re-worked by some of the private forum members. Once the site is completed, the public release will be out.

Good news all around! We'll be sure to keep you updated on iR Shell's progress and release.

Thanks to Syafiq for the tip!

*UPDATE*

AhMan has dropped by our forums to release iR Shell v4.7! That was fast! Looks like it's Osgeld or irshell.org who we have to thank for convincing AhMan to step out of his retirement to update it.

iR Shell now supports CFW 5.00 M33-3, and the latest Popsloader. Here are the developer's notes. You can click on the forums link for more information.

Below is the list of new feature summary:
  • Support Dark_AleX latest 5.00M33-3 CFWs. Users of original 5.00M33 & M33-2 should upgrade to M33-3 to avoid incompatibility issues. The latest Popsloader 5.00 is also supported.
  • An Infra-Red learning remote is added for PSP Phat. You no longer need to hunt pronto codes for your appliances. Just point your remote unit at the PSP and it will learn the iR code. It is available under higher firmwares and not fw 1.5 mode. Refer to the Release Note for usage details.
  • The nethostfs connection handling has been redesigned to be more robust. However, iR Shell 4.7 and onwards can only connect to the new nethostfs PC server v2.1. Make sure you've updated the nethostfs PC server.
  • Enhance UMD/ISO game compatibility via nethostfs MAX mode. Most previous failed games will probably work.
  • Usbhostfs & nethostfs host redirection under XMB has returned.
  • The Adhoc PC connection for nethostfs was broken since fw 3.71. This feature has been brought back for PSP Phat.
  • Enhance the HTML Plugin (by Dark_AleX) to allow direct launching of flash games with extension SWF.
Installation Instructions:
  • Unzip the archive and place the content to the root directory of your memory stick. Make sure to apply the irspatch under ms0:/IRSHELL/PATCH directory for your cooresponding firmware version.
Thanks again Osgeld! Here's the download, get it while it's hot!

 » ...

maybe I'm asking to much, but maybe he won't lock this one to the FW like he has in the past so its not dependent upon him to update it when a new FW version comes out.

   Re: StoneCut - 2008-11-10
 » No help

That wouldn't help. iR Shell applies very specific patches to the firmware in memory. These patches need to be custom-made for each new firmware release. Without these patches you have severely reduced compatibility.

Now I can finally update my FW! It's only iRShell that held me into sticking with 3.90 M33-3. I love you AhMan!

set the kernal to 5.XX and put the irshell% folders in the game150 and the other one in GAME. the red icon is the 1.50 version and the green is the 5.XX

 » hmm....

looks like noUMD mode isn't working again, is there a patch in the making?

   Re: 73N5H1 - 2008-11-10
 » ...

nevermind.. been so long since I used IRShell... the NOUMD patch is included... I just forgot to run it in IRShell.

   Re: ajnauron - 2008-11-10
 » Where is the patch?

It's not in the IRSHELL/PATCH/500 folder.

   Re: JaXeRiR - 2008-11-11
 » Umm

Oh yes it is. It's in the folder ms0:/IRSHELL/PATCH/5.00/ folder

I'm having problems launching homebrew, I get an "Error starting application - 8002013C" error. It doesn't happen to all homebrews though,. Out of all apps I tried, only PSP Filer 5.6, FileAssistant 3.XX, SmallHEX 1.4, UMDRip and PReSS refuse to launch. I haven't tried all my homebrews yet though.

Anyway, it looks like PSP Stakker works when launched from IR Shell on 5.00 M33-3 :) It doesn't work for me if launched from the XMB.

Also POPSLoader doesn't work for me.. I can launch a PSX game via IR Shell fine, but if I choose anything else than 'Original from flash' as the POPS driver, my PSP just reboots :/

Oh, btw, IR Shell rocks! :D

   Re: ajnauron - 2008-11-11
 » NOUMD patch

No it isn't. The only patches in that folder are the autoboot and 5.00 patch-the one you're supposed to use after you install IRShell. The NOUMD patch isn't in sight.

   Re: ajnauron - 2008-11-11
 » nvm

I stand corrected.
   by Metal Jody - 2008-11-10
 » damn it

I can't run the btcnfpatch.prx in irshell. i'm on 5.00 M33-3 and tried this on 1 other psp but still nothing. i launch the prx but nothing happens. blank screen. how did everyone else run it?

   Re: Covet - 2008-11-11
 » solution?

I had the same problem as you, until i turned off all the game plugins. Smooth sailing after that

   Re: ajnauron - 2008-11-11
» You need to run the patches under IRShell kernel 5.00

Not kernel 150.

 » great news

This is awesome news for a Monday. IR remote learning is gonna be... rufus. Maybe I can program it lock and unlock my car door.

   Re: iamback(unregistered) - 2008-11-14
 » you do realize...

No offense, but I'm pretty sure garage door openers are based on RF modulations.

I'm not 100% sure though.

However, I'm glad this is finally available. I had a pretty decent role in getting that feature to get implemented. Basically, I kept begging a friend of Ahman to tell Ahman to try to get it implemented, and he finally did. YAY!

I'ma go try this on my psp that I got for free from www.swatcash.com/admin

This is the best news I've heard all day!

I've been waiting years for this!

 » Never forget

Ahman is the one of the oldest reputable devs ever to do homebrew for the PSP and in my personal opinion, iRShell is the PSP's Opus Magnum. It is by far the most necessary thing to have on a PSP for me.

   by ajnauron - 2008-11-10
 » Awesome!

IRShell's the best app on the PSP and when development stopped I didn't want to lose it so despite DAX's hard work releasing new CFWs, I stayed on 3.80M33-5 in order to continue using IRShell with no incompatibility issues. I'm glad I can move on, but I will always be loyal to this one app.

I stayed a 3.71 M33, but now I can finally upgrade.

i think ir shell sucks and anyone who uses it is a johnson

jk i love it.
it saved my life

   by batanen - 2008-11-12
 » Welcome back!

I rarely use iRShell, but found it very useful when my PC went broken as I could unzip & move files with it. It has also some other nice features and it's good that at least the previous version worked with 3.40OE too.

I always thought when AhMan leaved the community he never actually finished iRShell. Now should be the time to make the two player PS1 Adhoc feature even better. Playing Rollcage 1 (player vs player) without any lag could be a dream come true.

how can i use the infrared remote only on my 3.90m33-3 the new one this one instead of upgrading.

   by jgr9 - 2008-11-13
» Awesome to finally get an update, but...

I don't know about anyone else, but I haven't upgraded to the new IR Shell, I have the 5.0 M33 and it still works. :P

   by icypsp - 2008-11-13
» psx games and other cool stuff

will it play psx games?
If so this will definitely be a reason for me to upgrade (kinda)
because i have the 3.90 semi version
and it will not play them.
Also will it play videos? I mean it was allready straight because I could switch back and forth between the xmb and it.
This is definitely the best psp shell
i tried Nervos and it was ok.
I hope Nervos works on 5.00m33
because I want both.
Oh yea I hope there will be a way to stop the XMB from running after I already switched back from it.
Because i dont like having to restart it.

The IR learning feature is useful as hell. I've been going around Fry's Electronics and turning their TVs and such off, such fun.

 » Ahman

is the man.
In my opinion, IRShell is by far the best homebrew for the psp.
I only update to a certain firmware when an IRShell is released for it.
