Keep praying, Aeris... Keep praying... We're with you in this! - Image 1

Ever since the early 2000s, this rumor has already been going around. Everyone and their orphan's moogle-doll was talking about a possible remake of Final Fantasy VII. When the PS2 was released, who wouldn't want their favorite FF title enhanced with the back-then-next-gen?

Another window opens and the PS3 is out. FFVII running on the Cell Processor, you ask? Well, there are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, that are dreamt of in your philosophy. Especially with the 10th year anniversary of FFVII looming just ahead (January 31 - that's tomorrow!), online forums have been ablaze again with this age-old rumor. Is Square really going to release a next-gen FFVII? Will they announce something during the anniversary?

Some of us have probably grown sick of this rumor (same thing goes with the bit about being able to resurrect Aeris), and a lot have speculated that the supposed "game in the works" would be using the Unreal Engine 3.

Regardless, the fact remains that most of us have been clamoring for a remake. Personally though, I'd take this with a grain of salt. Appealing though the idea is to me (let's see them make a game with Advent Children graphics!), I'll believe it when I see it. The rumor does get tiring after a while, but if Square Enix is going to make an announcement soon, all we can do for now is wait...

Come on Square quit fronting, u know ur making a FF7 remake. If u can make a million ports of FF1, u can make a new PS3 version of FF7, and think of the $ and fan service. Nintendo would have made 30 FF7's by now, geesh. Once decent remake of FF7 isn't too much to ask, is it?

And while ur at it, do Final Fantasy VIII too, that was my favorite. After VII of course.

 » Unreal 3 engine overrated

I hope if it does happen that they dont choose the unreal 3 engine. Im getting tired real fast of that engine. I dont want all my games to look the same! we need to see new stuff. Unreal 3 engine cant produce the supposed advent children graphics. Everything looks way to shiny and fake in gears and rainbow and every other game that uses it. We need to go to a gritty feel, more realistic.

 » ...

The engine has nothing to do with the game looking too shiny or fake as you say it.
Thats the developers fault, they are the ones that made their assets shiny.

Square Enix will create the same quality visuals as they always have. Only now the process will be much more refined and efficient due to the well established engine they're using.

   Re: .rar (Unregistered) - 2007-01-31
 » true that

just like me said, it's the devs that make it shinny or not. And if it's any idication, coded arms for the PS3 (canceled?) was/is developed using the unreal engine. You should check it out. Alittle imagination goes a long ways.

And Gears is a different case. It's the poster child of the Unreal Engine for consoles, so nothing may surpase the game's visuals. But who knows, maybe square can give them a run for their money.

 » Just another rehash

As many times as Square has redone FF1-6 its only a matter of time before they redo 7. Hell SE is getting ready to redo FF1 for the fifth time for the PSP.

why isn't the website working the one with the link to this topic about ff7.

 » c'mon you guys

using unreal isn't going to make an ff game look like gears(though it could if SE wanted it to...which would be weird). It can still run the same smoother, I guess "plainer" textures we all want from an ff game. But it does offer some good possibilities in terms of bump mapping and lighting. I think good stuff is on the horizon.

» Next Projects Arent About the Unreal Engine 3

They are Not Only Using the Unreal Engine To Create the New Projects,Check your Info Well Before Droping Speculations..

Here is a Quote from Taku Murata Manager of Sqaure:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/758/758359p1.html

"In an effort to ensure top-quality in its next-gen games, Square Enix is building a "combined technology platform." In a press release issued this morning, Square noted the new platform would be used "throughout the company, utilizing proprietary technologies as well as third-party solutions such as Unreal Engine 3."

a "Combined Technology Platform"....In other Words they are combining the Unreal Engine with their Own Propietary Technologies to Create a New-Ground Development Platform.

There are Many Reasons Behind this....One Is that Sqaure is Excellent in RPG making but It Isnt Quiet as Good in Making Action Games....So they Need an Engine that Excels at Other gaming Genres to Allow them to Expand their Games Beyond RPG,s

The Result a Combination Between the Unreal Engine and Sqaure,s In-House Developed Tools and Engine to Create this New Platform....Which is Excellent News.

Games Wont Simply Be another UE3 game....It Will Be a New Unique Development Enviroment for Much Better Games.

Final Fantasy 7 is so god damn overrated. If you want a real gem, play 5 or 6.

I am honestly tired of getting my hopes up only to get destroyed by Square-Enix. Like the article says, I'll believe it when I see it. And if I do see it (assuming that it's exclusive to Playstation)... ***** YOU XBOX 360 YOU JUST GOT RAPED.

 » ass-u-me

there isn't any reason to think that a remake of FF7 would be ps3 exclusive. the main reason the ps2 got so many was it's insanely large install base.

sony would have to pay through the nose to get a potential multimillion seller exclusive to a system with a smaller install base.

   Re: Cid (Unregistered) - 2007-01-31
 » PS2?

What do you mean the reason PS2 got exclusives was cause of its fanbase? FFVII wasn't even a PS2 game... Either way I'd love to see a re-make, and the PS3 version would probably end up looking the best by then anyway.

Favorite FF Games:

1. VII
2. IX
3. XII
4. X
5. IV

I want a world where sony, microsoft and nintendo come together and create there own system, so pretty much everyone is happy.
Have it backwards compatible with all platforms.
Hell, why not call it the phantom, that rumored system that could play ps2 and xbox games.

#1 - FFVI/FFX
FFVI is the premier 2D RPG and nothing released before or since has even come close to it (as a 2D RPG) except Chrono Trigger. FFVI was just a complete well rounded package.
FFX was just amazing at telling a story and building an environment as well as introducing and building characters. SE took a few risks with it (Sphere Grid, Turn Based, No World Map, etc), but it worked out and it's an amazing game overall.

#3 - FFXII
Best looking PS2 game I've played (Excluding GT4 which was just ridiculous). The game showed how much SE learned from FFXI, FFXII felt like an MMORPG. The world felt alive and there was always something to do. If the game had a stronger story and lasted longer (SE had originally promised 150 hours, the game can be beaten in 60 if you don't do sidequests) it would be number 1 on the list.

#4 - FFIX
A 3D FF that went back to the roots, not only are classes enforced and limit breaks gone the characters are also well developed and each have a decent backstory and reasoning for their actions (A lack of reasoning is why I hate cloud and sephiroth and a lot of FFVII). And on top of that it looked great as a PS1 game.

#5 - FFIV
The 2D FF game I like most after FFVI, the story was not as great as FFVI but it made it's mark and it was leaps and bounds above 3. The only reason this game is on the list is because I don't consider FFT a real FF game.

BTW I think FFVII is way overratted

 » in the year 2010...

That's when S-E will be able to unveil FFVII Remade, or whatever. They're too busy working on FFXIII to dabble in FFVII right now.

As much as I loved FFVII, it DOES need a remake. I mean, crap, everyone looks like Legos. It really breaks the mood and story for FF newbies.

Heck, FFVIII is holding up pretty good through the years (graphically), so why would it need a revamp?
