Adhoc Party - Image 1

Adhoc multiplayer mode won't be the bane of PSP owners who want the global reach of infrastructure mode anymore. If they have PS3s, that is. Sony has finally announced that Adhoc Party is coming to North America.

For those who haven't heard of it, Adhoc Party is a free PS3 app that lets PSP owners connect to a PS3 through Wi-Fi and play adhoc-only games over the Internet. Can't find companions nearby for a Monster Hunter run? With Adhoc Party, you can look for party members from halfway 'round the globe.

The app also supports voice chat if you have a PlayStation Eye wireless headset.

The only thing that puts a damper in the festivities is that apart from saying that it's coming soon, Sony hasn't revealed a launch date yet. Still, great news. It's about damn time that they announce this, really, what with the number of big adhoc-only PSP games that have come out (and are about to come out).

I've been using the Japanese ad-hoc party since it came out for Dissidia to play against my bestfriend when not hanging out. Guaranteed it's not going to have any better or worse support and it supports nearly all games on the PSP.

The supported games should have been online in the first place, and with mic support. That is why the mic is there right? Oh wait... Skype. Why settle for less? Adhoc party is not useless, but at the same time, just make the game support infrastructure.

 » On the other hand...

I would disagree. Most of the games I played with AdHoc would NOT play well with AP...simply too much lag will kill you or will render the game a lot less enjoyable than AdHoc (like Dissidia and GvG).

The problem about being Infrastructure-only is that the game can't really be enjoyed at full speed with just your close buddies. AdHoc allows players to play locally (and on the go, of course), then use AP if they want to sacrifice some speed to play with people across the world.

To be honest, AP and XLink never struck me as a good idea for games that require precise timing and movement. Without a top-class, low-latency Internet connection, it simply isn't enjoyable.

» Thank you for a legit reason

Yea i totally understand that, but c'monn ;) c'monnn ;)... if its online you wont need the ps3. We've all dealt with "lag" before, its nothing. On the other hand i swear that "little Big planet" game that is about to come out will not have online play because of the reason you mentioned. Regardless I strongly feel as though the PSP needs more online games. It supports it so "support it". I think that gives all video games better re-play value.

For example Killzone Liberation is old, and there are always people online no matter what the time of day. Even if most of them are hacking. Even Resistance Retribution, the Socom series, the Syphon Filter series, Metal Gear Solid, Starwars. There are always people online.

Know i understand your reason, but seriously none of these games could have supported online play? I mean even the second Coded Arms, "Coded Arms Contagion" supported online. I own that game and i do not experience that issue.

Yes you are right about Dissidia, and im more than sure the same reason applies to little big planet, but games like Burnout, Gran Turismo, Midnight Club LA Remix, Even the New NFS Shift, those games should have been playable online without a second thought. I feel the develepors should have supported that feature in those games. If they did I would still be playing them.

Now i know this game is not on the PSP, im just using it for example. Lost Planet, once you beat it there is really no other reason to play it again unless you play online. Unkess you have love the brilliant HD experience, or it is one of your all time personal favorites. That same thing applies for PSP games in my opinion.

I really feel like they need to stop living in the past, and just go head on into victory with brilliant multiplayer features. Ad-hoc party to me is like an excuse for them to "not do" certain things, and now there may be fewer games that support the mic.

What iam saying is, support all the console features! "Just do it", and stop it with these... ummm
what is a word for someone who does something but when they do it, it is not what you expected and they just did a "half job" on what you really wanted them to do?

Its like doing your homework, but you do not answer all the questions, so your teacher gets mad at you for slacking off. Personally that is what ad-hoc party is to me.

You act like infrastructure is an easy thing to do. It's not, it's very resource intensive and time consuming, a lot of developers just don't have the time, money, and staff to develop something that big, especially when there isn't a huge market for online psp games atm.

 » Hmmm Typo

First paragraph
" If they have PS3s, that it" Shouldn't it be "If they have PS3s, that is"?

Also, regarding games having infrastructure. Imo i prefer Adhoc party because imagine if you like playing a game on infrastructure and then suddenly the servers closes. You wouldn't be able to play it online anymore. :/

 » Another great reason

but still idk, mostly because i dont have ps3 money "yet", neither do i want to purchase it for "PSP" features ;)
But yea I was told this old game, i think it was " ATV Offroad Fury Pro" the servers are down so you cant play online anymore, and that game was fun too. If its not this games, it is some other old atv game.
Another great reason, but still just do it.
Resistance Retribution is on this list.

and that game is allready online, so i say just support both, then no complaints from no one.

» for the people who use the japan version of adhocparty

does it reject custom firmware or bypass a check?

Re: TwoJay - 7 days ago
 » Nope

It doesn't have a firmware check. I've been playing with 5.00 m33-6 for ages.
