 Activision will definitely not be kind to those people who attempt to pirate their goose that's sure to lay golden eggs, Modern Warfare 2 (PC, PS3 and Xbox 360).Last Thursday, Activision apparently spotted a high-profile offer posted on Craigslist for the said game. Not about to shrug it off, the publisher actually hired a private investigative firm to catch the seller. The investigation firm, IPCybercrime.com, tracked the seller down and found that he was an employer at a retailer, who had stolen the game bundles, along with friends, specifically to sell on Craigslist. One of the people busted was Christian del Amo, who also turned out to be hatching a plan to copy the game and selling the pirated copies on hard drives. del Amo's case was turned over to the Miami-Dade Police, who arrested him in turn. Now his worries won't be about how to sell his stolen goods fast, but how he can get his ass out of jail. With Activision complaining, and hard evidence backing up their case, I don't think he'll be able to get his hands on any videogame soon. Related Articles:

Downloading games for yourself is one thing, but downloading then selling unreleased games is another.

initially i thought this game should not be pirated, it's too good for pirating... However, after IW messed up the multiplayer for the PC version, i just said screw it! I would probably buy it when the game is in the $20 bin at walmart.

I don't really care if people steal games over the net for their own personal use, I still think it's not right and I don't do it myself, but stealing a game to copy it hundreds of times to sell it for 100% profit is just not cool. This guy deserves what he gets

I have no problem with pirating a game, however if you actually "steal" the real physical copy and you want to sell the stolen or pirated copies, you deserve to be put in jail.

You re-read this silver and tell me this is NOT the exact same thing. If the guy was going to take the HARD copies of the game and pirate them to sell on harddrives as say a SOFT copy.
Wouldnt you say its stealing either way?
Stealing is stealing. Digitally or physically its same. Easier digitally yes. Any more right? No.
Either way, pirated or physically stolen, Activision and IW are out of $60 a pop.

If you make a copy then the original party has not lost anything tangible.
In both cases they lose a POSSIBLE future sale, but my opinion is that the companies way overstate the number of lost sales.

Pirate or not, if I'm not interested (at all!) in a game I move on... this series stopped being fun after the 20th sequel anyway (and I'm looking at you too Halo!).

You've obviously never played Modern Warfare... Honestly it isn't the same as the others at all. And if you really didn't know that there were that many "sequels", then you might need to considering getting out from under your rock sometime. It's nice outside.
(I agree though, there are way to many sequels/spinoffs of games, but if they continue to be good then I will continue to play them. And if my family ever gets out of our economic sh1t hole, then I would most definitely purchase all of the games I have copies of.)

Then both Halo and COD don't have that many titles. Halo only has 3 main games if you don't count ODST. That's nothing compared to the vast majority of series that sell like Halo does... I guess COD is getting up there, MW2 will be the 6th main game in the series, but it's no less great than before. And like Earender said, MW and MW2 are totally different games than the other 4.
