Global warming is threatening to melt off all the ice in the North Pole come Summer, which further endangers (the already endangered) polar bears. The solution? Scientists are now actually considering shipping some of them off to the other pole, Antarctica. Good idea? Not really. Humans have tried doing this sort of thing before - uprooting one species from its natural habitat and placing it in a foreign one - and most of them have ended up in disaster. This one may not be the exception. For one thing, Antarctic penguins and seals do not have any surface predators. You put polar bears in there, and they'll just have a smorgasbord. Then we'll just have extinct seals and penguins, and when that happens, extinct antarctic polar bears as well since they ran out of food source. Political and scientific groups are divided on this one, but you just can't avoid the question: what other options are left? Desperate times call for desperate measures. Related Stories:

Polar bears are NOT endangered. They are placed on an endangered list because of PROJECTED population numbers in 50 years. In fact, their population has boomed seemingly as a result of the warmth trend in the last decade.

Fair enough, Orlyeh, but it's not you or I who decide whether they should be officially labeled as "endangered." If those who are in power to do so - those who are more well-informed and more experienced than us in these matters - believe them to be endangered, are we really in a position to disagree?

If you actually pay attention to these articles that are released you'll notice they're talking more about the environment and NOT population numbers. What good is a temporary increase in population if you eventually have no where to live? Well there's your answer to the projected 50yrs estimated extinction, so they ARE indeed endangered.

"What good is a temporary increase in population if you eventually have no where to live?"
What logic do you have to back the notion that it's an increase. The Premise here is that the amount of land for them has been decreasing for quite some time due to warming yet their numbers are increasing to record levels. These are contradictory pieces of evidence that seem to be nicely OMITTED from articles such as this.

» Seems you've once again
missed the point. Warmer climates are more hospitable and therefore make it easier for the polar bears to increase in population, I never denied this. However, this also results in the loss of living area which will eventually result in none.

» Why not build them a man made island in the north
It is the least our worthless asses could do since we are causing this problem right? If that were to happen it would be funny to find out they outlived the human race in the future......floating on their own cruise ship for bears or something.
