PlayStation 3 - Image 1There's a rather sad story we chanced upon about a Sony PlayStation 3 owner who's not happy with what happened to his console. One person who we only know as Kosma from Europe claims that he sent his faulty 60GB PS3 for repair around a month and a half ago. The unfortunate thing is, he may not be able to get it back in a few more months.

The console in question is the backwards compatible model which has effectively been replaced with the cheaper 40GB SKU. Now that the older machines are basically out of the picture, Kosma is in an alarming situation where he has to wait indefinitely before Sony ships the same Sony PS3 model to his region for replacement.

Upon contacting a representative, Kosma was told that the 60GB PS3 is not in stock and there's no saying when Sony will send replacements. "We don't know when a shipment will arrive to replace your unit. Call back in 2/4 weeks for an update."

We'll be there when updates drop, so keep checking this space!

This comment isn't aimed at you Cllxt i just wanted to get it near the top so it would be seen.

Theres no way that he wont get a new PS3 if the story is true hell if he played his cards right he could even get a game thrown in for good measure e.g "Oh no! no 60GB PS3's wow bummer so you wanner throw me a 40GB and a game or two to make up for the hassle"
This story stinks of Microsoft misinformation watch the internet people its full of lies and owned by Bill Gates!!! the word of this site and its source are as valid as my opinion.
I bought a PS3 after my 360 exploded killed me and my whole family and i aint looked back since.

i don't know if he bought it that way, (faulty) but people should really take care of thier stuff. especially an expensive piece of equipment

oh you should take care of it! well no way, just because something breaks doesnt mean it wasnt taken care of.

so in other words your trying to say that people shouldn't take care of thier stuff? or are u saying that stuff breaks regardless if u take good care of it or not? there are people out there that purposely break stuff after a few months just to get ones.

It's possible that it isnt his fault... My PS3 already let me down once... It stopped reading discs after i resetted my ps3 when Oblivion crashed on me...

I've never had a problem with my 60 GB so far. I'm glad I have a PS3 with backwards compatibility and hope it'll never break down. All I know is that I won't have to worry about the PS3 overheating after seeing the article about a PS3 surviving 108 hours in a sauna. What my brother did for FF12 was set gambits for his characters that would allow them to kill the enemies with one hit, and revive when dying and he left his PS3 on all day until all his characters were level 99. That is something you would only be able to do on a 60 GB PS3. It won't work on a 40 or 80 GB PS3 because of no backwards compatibility, and a PS2 would probably overheat.

are u serious? a ps2 would probably overheat?
i didnt even know it took enough electric power to overheat. i think a ps3 has a way higher chance of over heating... and not to mention the 20 gig and the 80 gig ps3s do have backwards capabities with ps2 games... where have you been?

Wow Sony is complete idiots for this they should of planned something like this out. Honestly. This poor kid can wait months or get a crappy 40gb.

 » 80GB

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the guy is from Europe, can't he just ask for an 80GB replacement? I thought the when the 60GB launched in Europe, it was the same as when the 80GB came along...no Emotion Engine Chip and just a PS2 GPU?

At least that's what I heard from a friend from Europe...that their 60GB is the same as the 80GB. It's not like the 60GB that launched in Japan and America.
