1.0 - 1.50 Downgrader WIP Banner

Yes, that is right! Another downgrader is in progress as we speak. Yoshihiro, Mathieulh, and Dark_Alex are currently working on a downgrader that will allow you to downgrade your 1.50 to a 1.0 PSP! This was the first firmware that made it onto the PSP, and was only available on Japanese PSP's at launch. This first firmware was, and still is the only firmware that will allow us to run unsigned eboot files without any exploits. Nem was the first to release a homebrew application in the classic form of a "Hello World" application. The one benefit for this downgrade is the ability to run unsigned eboots, and ultimately hacked firmware. This means that, like the Undiluted Platinum modchip, we will be able to use custom firmware as our firmware. This downgrader has been tested by FreePlay and Dark_Alex to work, so all looks promising!

Mathieulh, Yoshihiro, and Dark_Alex will be releasing this downgrader tomorrow if everything goes to plan. We will inform you all when the downgrader comes out as fast as humanly possible. In the time being, feel free to check out the talk as it happens in Fanjita's IRC channel. You can access this by opening your IRC client, join the irc.dashhacks.com server and join the channel #noobz.

Mr_Dank was kind enough to link us to the video he just uploaded of him downgrading his 1.50 PSP to 1.00.

Forum Issue -

You will have to chat about it in the IRC at this moment because our forums are down due to technical difficulties. The forums should be back up by tomorrow if everything goes according to plan. We are sorry for any inconvience this may have caused you, but you are welcomed to chat in the comments or the IRC channel that I mentioned.

Update #1: Dark_AleX, Yoshihiro and Mathieulh have now released the 1.50 to 1.00 downdater. Remember that to install this program, you will need the help of someone with a 1.00 PSP, and as always there is a risk to brick your PSP whenever you write to the flash memory. Be sure to have your battery charged and your PSP plugged into the power source to make sure you do not lose power while doing this. The steps are as follows, for the person with a 1.00 PSP, and the 1.50 PSP:

Instructions for the 1.00 user:

- Copy the downhelper100 folder to /PSP/GAME/ and start the program.
- It will dump your flash and your ipl to the memory stick. After finished, the program will exit.
Send the folder created at the root of your memory stick called "DOWNDATER" to someone with 1.50 to allow him to downgrade.

Instructions for the 1.50 user:

- Copy __SCE__downdater100 and %__SCE__downdater100 to /PSP/GAME/
- Get the DOWNDATER folder from your friend with a 1.00 version PSP and put it on the memory stick.
- Get the official Sony 1.50 update and put it under /PSP/GAME/UPDATE
- Start the program.
Note: You need to set the language of your psp to either english or japanese before starting (anyways, it will advise you if you don't have that requirement and it will exit safely). Also, connect the PSP to the AC adaptor.
- After a confirmation with the X button, you PSP will start to flas to 1.00.

DO NOT REMOVE the memory stick and DO NOT shut down the PSP.

After it is finished, the program will tell you to restart the PSP manually, and you will have a 1.00 PSP. Remember, this will flash your PSP's flash memory and you could potentially brick (break) your PSP.

Before downgrading, make sure you meet the following requirements -
Your PSP is not a TA-082. This downgrader has you to be tested on a PSP with this type of motherboard. (If you do have this PSP version, it may result in a brick). [Find out if you have one!]

If you are willing to try this and know the possible consequences, you must enter a password for the file.

The password for the download (when you extract) is: I_Use_It_At_My_Own_Risk

I used to have 1.0, it sucks for watching videos, because if yo u hit L or R, it skips to the next video. Really lame. I'm gonna stick with 1.5.

 » Uhh... 1.0 Virgin here!

Could somebody explain benefits that could be extracted from firmware 1.0. I have 1.5, and I know that you can use many programs such as ThemePSP, Flashmod, Devhook, and so on... Many of these programs access flash, can firmware 1.0 do this... For example could I change the font on a 1.0 firmware PSP, or can I run UMDs requiring an update to firmware 2.6? If not I do not believe I will downgrade, but if someone could explain to me why a PSP 1.0 can recieve more benefits than a PSP firmware 1.5, I would be gratedul... Thank you in advance for a response... and P.S. I am not a n00b... I am very active in use exploits, and hacking my PSP, but because a PSP with firmware 1.0 is so rare, I, unfortunately, not have had a chance to experience it...

whats the point? everything is made for 1.50 now anyways .

and there is still talk about custom firmwares . no one is going to make one! its not gonna happen. wuts the point!

its cool we can go down to 1.0 but dont say that its good for custom firmwares because there has yet to be one.

 » Ohh... Forgot to mention...

I did read the article... I am the guy who is requesting information about firmware 1.0 and if it can acces flash like 1.5... I did read the article and i also do not understand what the custom firmwares are, does that mean emulating firware 2.71? Thank you...

 » wow...

Sony must be getting pretty pissed right now. They're probably planning to release their next firmware upgrade sooner than planned after all this good news over the past week. But to Yoshihiro and Dark_Alex, great work guys.

 » It will happen

Nobody would develop a custom firmware for version 1.00 if nobody has that version... with this downgrader, I'm sure developers will start working in the custom firmware (because its possible) and pretty soon we'll start to see some cool stuff.

However I really wonder if they will be able to make 2.xx games bootable with custum firmware, I hope so..

Cyaa and thx for the cool news.

   by Sumo X - 2006-07-05
» Nice idea, not sure why though...

Having 1.0 is a nice idea, but until there's someone with custom firmware ready to be used, I don't see the point in downgrading. From what I understand, 1.0 PSPs are lacking the ability load a certain prx file from 1.5+ games, and I'm pretty sure things like Devhook don't work either.

I'll consider downgrading when I see something absolutely worth doing it for and I know it's 99.9% safe.

 » The only....

The only good thing about it is that we will get custom fw.
The article said:

The one benefit for this downgrade is the ability to run unassigned eboots, and ultimately hacked firmware. This means that, like the Undiluted Platinum modchip, we will be able to use custom firmware as our firmware.

Hells yeah, but I'm not gonna dg until it is STABLE, and I mean working 100% with no bricks.

The custom fw means we could make our own fw -- Somebody experienced could make a fw that would allow FULL kernel access like a 1.5 -- but all the features of a 2.71.

this is great. Can you can play any homebrew on 1.00? Cause 1.50 doesn't play homer rin.

by Infrablue Kid (Unregistered) - 2006-07-05
 » hmm...... good

now that we have devhook, why not go back to 1.00, i mean, 1.00 for all your Hbrew, and than back to 2.50 for all your games and media
